Today at Trends Salon, we take time to reflect on the deep history and enduring contributions of Indigenous communities—both in our local area and across the globe.

For some of us, these roots are visible. For others, they may be tucked into family stories, cultural memories, or shared through connection with someone we care about. Whether or not you carry Indigenous heritage, we all have something to learn from Indigenous values—like respect for nature, communal care, and wellness as a form of tradition.

Our owner has Indigenous roots from El Salvador—reminding us that identity can be layered, global, and beautifully personal.

Let this day be an invitation:

To reflect on your roots or explore the ancestry of those close to you

To learn about local Indigenous communities and their histories

To celebrate beauty as more than aesthetics—it’s connection, healing, and legacy

We honor these stories, and we’re grateful to be part of a community that uplifts them. 🧡

Sugaring? I’ve heard about it—but is it right for me? 🤔

Sugaring is a gentle, effective hair removal service we offer at Trends: Sugaring with SJ, our experienced esthetician.

🌿 What is Sugaring?
It’s an all-natural method of hair removal that uses a paste made from sugar, lemon, and water. That’s it! -See, when we say sustainable beauty, we mean it! No resins, no artificial ingredients, and no mystery chemicals.

Why Our Guests Love It:
• Gentler on skin than traditional waxing—perfect for sensitive areas like bikini lines and lower.
• Hair is removed in the direction of growth, reducing breakage and ingrowns.
• Results can last 3–5 weeks—and get better over time!
• Easy cleanup with water (because it’s water-soluble!)

Is it right for you?
Maybe, If you’ve been curious but hesitant, SJ is here to walk you through it. She creates a comfortable, judgment-free space and will make sure you feel confident every step of the way. Whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth, you’re in expert hands.

Fall Hair Goals? Talk to your stylist before making the move.

Ismeta created this stunning fall blend—rich chocolate brown with blonde ends—and we’re obsessed. 😍 But before you make a big change with your hair this season, here’s our advice:

Don’t act on impulse.
Beautiful, healthy hair takes time, attention, and the right knowledge—and we’ve got all of that right here at Trends. Ismeta (Ipa) goes over:

The best way to curl your hair.
How to maintain moisture and shine.
Tips on caring for your hot tools and brushes.

Because hair color is just one part of the story—your care routine completes the look.

Styling Tips for Long, Lived-In Waves:

1. Use a Larger Barrel
Go for a 1.25" to 1.5" curling iron or wand. The bigger the barrel, the looser the wave. Avoid anything smaller unless you want tighter curls. We love the BioIonic long barrel iron here at Trends.

2. Curl Away From Your Face
Start mid-shaft (not at the root) and wrap hair away from your face. This opens up your features and keeps it soft.

3. Leave the Ends Out
Don’t curl all the way to the bottom—leave out the last 1-2 inches for that effortless, undone finish.

4. Alternate Curl Directions
Curl a few pieces in the opposite direction of the rest. This keeps the waves from blending into one big curl and gives you movement.

5. Let It Cool, Then Brush It Out
After curling, let your hair cool completely before touching it. Then use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to gently separate the curls.

6. Finish With Texture Spray, Not Hairspray
Skip the stiff hold—use a dry texture or volume spray to keep the waves touchable and soft all day.

Bonus Tip: If you’re going for “day two” hair vibes, curl on clean, dry hair but apply a little dry shampoo or texturizing spray first to give it some grit.

Kayla, our stylist here that has mastered this, can show you exactly how to do this based on your hair texture and length. Don’t be afraid to ask during your next visit!

What are Sulfates anyway? You may have heard about using "sulfate-free" shampoos, but whats the big deal? Answer below:
Sulfates are harsh detergents commonly found in shampoos. They create that rich lather, strip your hair of its natural oils, and fade your color fast.
You should avoid them if you have:
– Color-treated hair
– Curls and coils that crave moisture
– A sensitive scalp or dry ends
– A fresh keratin or smoothing treatment.

Think of sulfate-free products as skincare—but for your scalp. Gentle, effective, and made to protect instead of strip.
Not sure if your products are sulfate-free? Bring them in—we’ll take a look and help you build a routine that supports your hair goals.
We carry several sulfate-free shampoos, conditioners, and treatments right here at Trends.

To give shorter lengths this much volume and definition, a good practice is not to diffuse with your head upside down, but to pull the curls straight up from the crown of the head and let them drop where they naturally live. I used a light hold gel and a volumizing foam to achieve this look.
