Paranormal Hair Activity! 👻

Sometimes in the salon things don’t go as planned! When this new client came in, she had gotten her hair highlighted professionally once since coming back from deployment but needed to have less contrast between her highlights and natural so it would be in compliance with Army regulations. My plan was to do a heavy highlight, avoiding the areas she had previously lightened herself while deployed, and to make it super blendy. I checked the foils in the back when I finished the front, and they had lifted beautifully. Checked the front…and saw it was lifting highlighter green ☠️ Even the lightener on the foil had turned green/neon yellow! 🔰

Instead of panicking, this is when you just have to trust the process 😅 I closed the foil back up and let it process fully, visions of color correcting with 09nb + 09aa added into my formula floating around in my head 👩🏻‍🔬🎨

Luckily, with the full processing time, it lifted just as well as the back section and I was able to approach formulating the toner with what I had originally planned, though I did prep the hair with Peptide Prep Detox shampoo to remove whatever mineral/chemical buildup had caused it to react that way.

What can cause reactions like this? Mineral deposits from hard water, chemicals from swimming pools, certain medications, and at-home direct deposit colors (like Splat).

“I want to do something different!” ✨

She comes in 3-4 times a year, and we typically do a root retouch and a combo of blonde balayage and natural looking lowlights. This time we decided to try a strawberry blonde tone for the light pieces, enhancing her skin tone and making her eye color pop while keeping it low maintenance!

I used 6n and 6ng permanent color with 15ish volume to blend her grays instead of covering them. My toner formula for the light pieces was a combo of Joico 8nc and 09rb + 09g 🧡
