I have to respect the commitment these girls have to the clean girl aesthetic.

I really do.

But personally? I LOATHE it for myself.

I’ve been an Elder Emo Elder Millennial with winged liner since I was 11 years old sending my dad to Jewels to buy me blue mascara and black eyeliner.

I did not survive the eyeliner years just to pretend mascara and lip gloss are enough.

Meanwhile my HoCo girls are like:
“Glowy skin, lashes, blush, gloss.”

And I’m a whole Makeup Artist staring at my train case like:

“Baby, don’t take this personally. You’re still loved. We have pageants. We have bridal glam. We have other dances. Somebody WILL ask for drama again.”

My smoky palettes are collecting unemployment.
My blending brushes haven’t seen combat.
And somehow the smoky eye is ACTUALLY BACK IN and nobody wants one.

At this point I’m praying directly to Aphrodite, Goddess of Beauty:

PLEASE let one of these girls sit in my chair and say,

I have PCOS, and one of the lovely little gifts it gives me is hormonal, cystic acne. About once a month, one or two of these deep, painful little as****es appear along my jawline.

Yes, I cleanse, tone, moisturize and treat the area before applying a pimple patch.

Do pimple patches work?

Ehhh—depends on what you mean by “work.”

The plain-Jane hydrocolloid patch protects the area from bacteria, makeup and—most importantly—my own hands. Once the blemish reaches the surface, it can also absorb the fluid.

The medicated patch contains salicylic acid to help exfoliate and unclog the pore while the hydrocolloid handles whatever “ick” comes to the surface.

So anyway, today’s treatment featured a cryogenically chilled, ergonomically contoured facial massage vessel.
