Energy sucking clients.⠀

Woah.... are we going there?⠀

Yes, yes we are. ⠀
⠀
As a stylist, it’s tough having to adapt to different peoples energy all day. Maybe your first client is a brand new mom, she cried in your chair talking about post partum hairloss. Then maybe your next client is getting married in 2 weeks, she is stressed beyond belief and needs you to help her relax and feel pampered. Next client walks in and today’s her birthday! You get her a mimosa and spend the entire appointment laughing and talking about her plans tonight. You last client of the day walks in and your stomach sinks because you saw her mom just passed away on Facebook. She looks broken and you wrap her in a hug. You spend the appointment fairly quiet but listening to her sort out funeral arrangement on speakerphone. ⠀
Last client leaves with another big hug and you’re left sitting in your salon chair, rooms a mess. And you feel like all the energy in your body was ripped right out after today. ⠀

And we do this, day after day after day. ⠀
⠀
It’s rewarding, yes. But man it sucks every last bit of energy out of your soul some days. ⠀
⠀
Only solution I’ve found? Filling my cup on a daily basis. Filling it so full it’s overflowing. All the self love I can come up with I prioritize, and I don’t apologize for it. Self love and self care look different for everyone, but you know what they look like for me? ⠀

Quiet, early mornings before the sunrise, to drink my favorite coffee and read a personal growth book. Practicing gratitude on a daily basis. Massages. Lunch dates with friends. Float tanks. Podcasts. A housekeeper. A hot epsom salt bath at the end of the night. Weekend trips with my family. Wine. Personal trips by myself. Chocolate. Target. ⠀

Stylists, find your things. Prioritize them. Fill yourself up every chance you get. That’s your only possible way to be able to handle what this career throws at you.
And clients, find your things too, then find you a stylist that’s so filled up she’s ready to help, and listen, and pour right back into you. 💖
