When we ask about your hair history, we’re not judging—we’re gathering information so we can make the safest and most realistic plan for your hair. 🤎

Chlorine exposure, henna, box color, professional color, previous lightener, and other chemical services can all affect how your hair responds when we try to lighten or change your color. Two people can walk in with hair that looks almost identical on the outside but have completely different results underneath.

That’s why full disclosure is so important, especially if your goal is to go lighter.

Depending on your hair history, we may recommend a strand test before your color appointment. A strand test allows us to see how your hair lifts, what underlying tones are revealed, and—most importantly—how your hair handles the lightening process.

In some cases, we may also recommend clarifying, chelating, or other preparatory treatments before moving forward.

✨ Virgin hair may give us more flexibility.
✨ Previously colored hair may require multiple sessions.
✨ Some color goals may need to be adjusted to protect the integrity of your hair.

Your hair history doesn’t mean we can’t create something beautiful—it simply helps us determine the safest route to get you there.

If your natural hair is very dark and you choose a lighter single all-over color, your natural new growth can eventually create a more noticeable line of demarcation. That doesn’t mean anything went wrong—it’s simply the contrast between your natural color and your colored hair.

A softer, dimensional or lived-in approach can help blur that transition, allowing your natural color to blend into the lighter color more gradually as it grows.
