Aside from the obvious flowers, thoughtful card, and maybe a new, little something she’s been wanting — if you’re unsure of what to pick up for a new mama on Mother’s Day, think about upgrades to her quality of life.
These have been some of my faves in this new postpartum era. Anything that makes my life easier and more comfortable while I take care of this little human is a no-brainer. And with tiny, unreasonably strong hands nearby, it might be a while before I can wear cute Mother’s Day jewelry anyway.
What are some other new mom must-haves you’d add to the list?

Swipe for what I look for when choosing mine! 🍋 🍼
“Does this have electrolytes in it?” “Will this hydrate me better than water?” Hydration is SO important when it comes to keeping up your supply while breastfeeding, but what about all these electrolytes on the market? How do you choose which ones would be good for you?
What’s your favorite electrolyte mix right now?
You better hope for the sake of humanity I’m not still pregnant — and if I’m not (spoiler alert, no longer pregnant), then you know we’ve been doing alllll the skin to skin bonding over in the Byers household.
This concept is thrown around all the time, but have you ever had someone tell you exactly what the benefits are?
> Regulates vital signs: Helps stabilize the baby’s heart rate, breathing, body temperature, and blood sugar.
> Reduces stress: Lowers cortisol (stress hormone) and helps babies cry less and feel safer.
> Supports breastfeeding: Improves latch, milk production, and breastfeeding duration.
> Boosts immunity: Exposes baby to the caregiver’s healthy skin bacteria, helping develop the immune system.
> Improves sleep: Babies fall asleep more easily and sleep more deeply.
> Enhances bonding: Releases oxytocin (“the bonding hormone”) in both baby and parent, strengthening attachment.
> Supports brain development: Calm, regulated babies conserve energy for growth and neurological development.
> Helps with pain relief: Lessens pain responses during procedures like heel pricks.
Bonus benefit: you get to be as physically close as possible, however, you will have to restrain yourself from the cuteness aggression that comes with snuggling tiny baby and the squishy thighs.
Good luck.

HAPPY DUE DATE 🪿 I may be writing this caption in February, but you best believe I’m hopeful baby boy has made his debut already - what’s your guess for his birth weight?
We’re still crossing our fingers he’s got some red hair!

I have to be honest, I was worried about ‘losing myself’ to motherhood, to postpartum, to the hormonal rage of it all. The 5-5-5 rule is a goal I’d set for myself + expectation for those supporting me in this season.
I was worried that if the prep and time I invested into my postpartum would make me seem “extra”, selfish, or out of touch. As someone who is continuously trying to be comfortable taking up space and asking others for help, this seemed like a well established rule that would benefit my family (and even mainly me) and hey, that is a-ok to prioritize.
What is the 5-5-5 rule, and why does it matter? It’s time spent recovering, mentally and physically. Something that’s often lost in the early hours of postpartum. Focus on yourself and baby, that’s what’s most important right now.

* cringes at the word superfood *
No, this isn’t some early 2000’s list of telling you to eat 100 calorie packs of unsalted trail mix or convincing you to pound blueberries for antioxidants. TRUE superfoods will be different varying person to person, which is why “superfoods for xyz” is a generalization at best or a marketing scheme at worst.
Example? Pushing fermented foods in the name of gut-health is generally a great suggestion, probiotics? Great! Until you’re dealing with SIBO without knowing it and trigger your symptoms even more. Does that mean fermented foods aren’t beneficial? Well, for you and your current state — yes. But for someone else? A daily shot of kombucha and getting beneficial bacteria from sauerkraut maybe JUST what they need. So, what is this list? A general list of things that MIGHT benefit you OR not (and why).
Maybe it’s the high school sweetheart in me, maybe it’s oxytocin kicking into early labor ✨
