✨ A QUICK REMINDER ABOUT MY CHILD-FREE POLICY ✨

I want to take a moment to reiterate a policy that has been in place in my business for many years.

I do not accept children as clients, and I do not allow children to accompany guests to appointments.

This policy is clearly stated on my website, Google, social media, and booking information. It isn't new, and it isn't personal.

There are several reasons I have this policy.

First and foremost, a working salon is not always a safe environment for children. At any given time, there are extremely sharp shears, razors, hot tools reaching several hundred degrees, professional chemicals, color products, cords, equipment, and other items being actively used throughout the salon. Even a well-behaved child can move unexpectedly, and it only takes a second for an accident to happen.

This boundary protects your children, my clients, myself, and everyone else working in the salon.

My salon space is also designed to provide a relaxing, professional environment for my clients. Many come to me specifically because their appointment is a few hours where they can relax, decompress, and enjoy some time for themselves.

There is another side to this policy that is equally important: I specialize in adult hair. Consultations, maintenance expectations, product recommendations, styling routines, and determining whether a requested cut or color is appropriate for someone's hair are all part of the professional service I provide.

Occasionally, compassion has led me to make an exception to my own policy when someone was upset or there were circumstances that made me want to help. Unfortunately, I've learned that making exceptions can create confusion about a boundary that was already very clear.

So going forward, I will no longer be making exceptions to my child-free policy.

I also want to clarify something about consultations. If I advise against a particular cut, color, or style, it isn't because I'm trying to tell someone what they can or cannot do. It's because after 16+ years behind the chair, part of my responsibility is explaining what will realistically work with your hair, what maintenance will be required, and what potential issues I see before I pick up my shears or color brush.

A professional consultation isn't criticism. Education isn't judgment. And setting boundaries within my business isn't being unkind.

Sometimes saying, “I don't think this is the right choice for your hair,” is part of doing my job well, even when it isn't what someone hoped to hear.

I love what I do, I value the incredible clients who respect my space and professional boundaries, and I will continue protecting the safe, peaceful, professional environment I've worked very hard to create. 🖤

Over the years, I have worked very hard to create an environment where my clients can come in, relax, decompress, and enjoy their appointment.

For many of you, your hair appointment isn't just about your hair. It's a few hours away from work, responsibilities, kids, stress, and the general chaos of life. Some days we laugh until we cry, some days we solve all the world's problems, and some days you just need to sit quietly and breathe.

That experience matters to me.

As a reminder, Hair By Christy has been a child-free business for over six years. Children who are not receiving a service should not accompany you to your appointment. This isn't a new policy, and it isn't personal. It allows me to give you my full attention while maintaining a safe, professional, and relaxing environment.

I also ask that my private suite and closed door be respected. Please do not enter, knock repeatedly, or allow anyone accompanying you to disrupt an appointment in progress.

While I cannot control every aspect of working within a shared salon environment, I can be clear about what I want for the people who sit in my chair:

You deserve to be able to hear our conversation.
You deserve to relax.
You deserve privacy when you need it.
You deserve a clean, professional environment.
And you deserve to receive the experience you're paying for.

I love a salon filled with personality, conversation, laughter, and good music. But there is a difference between a lively atmosphere and an environment that becomes disruptive to the people around us.

Courtesy matters. Professionalism matters. Being aware of how our actions affect the people sharing a space with us matters.
