One thing that doesn’t get talked about enough in hair health? Nitric oxide.

Nitric oxide is a natural molecule your body makes that helps improve circulation and oxygen delivery throughout the body, including to the scalp and dilation of hair follicles.

And healthy follicles need:

Ways to naturally support nitric oxide production:

Beauty brands have learned that if they use words like clean, natural, non-toxic, organic, holistic, or eco-conscious… people buy into it.

But here’s the truth: many of these are marketing terms, not regulated standards.

This means a product can say:
“Clean” with no universal definition
“Natural” while still being highly processed
“Organic” when only one ingredient qualifies
“Non-toxic” without explaining what that means
“Sulfate/paraben free” while swapping in alternatives that still irritate people

Consumers are taught to fear ingredients they don’t understand while trusting labels they never question. And it’s overwhelming🫠

What actually matters more than “clean” when choosing a brand:
🌱 Full ingredient transparency
🌱 Refill programs
🌱 Lower-plastic packaging (glass packaging)
🌱 Provide detailed ingredient sourcing information
🌱 Safety + stability testing
🌱 Formulas that actually perform
🌱 Brands that educate instead of scare you
🌱 Made in smaller batches, not mass produced to preserve quality (over quantity)

My blunt opinion: many mainstream salon brands are just rebranding old formulas with prettier language 🫠🤷🏻‍♀️ the truly “cleaner” brands are often smaller, less flashy, and sometimes more expensive because sustainability & quality costs money.

Sometimes the most toxic thing in beauty….is the marketing.
