Every nine minutes, a child under the age of 6 is taken to the emergency room for an accidental medication exposure. Every 12 days, one of those children does not survive. (Safe Kids Worldwide)

For families raising children with special needs, that risk can be even greater. Many children with special needs are naturally curious, act on impulse, or explore the world by putting things in their mouths. Bright pills can look just like candy, and a child may not understand the danger or be able to tell you what they swallowed.

It is also important to know that child-resistant caps are not child-proof. About half of these accidental medication cases involved a child who got into child-resistant packaging. That is exactly why a locked cabinet matters so much. It is one simple step that can prevent a serious accident.

Store every medication and vitamin locked and safely out of reach. A small habit today can protect your child tomorrow.💜

Mission Monday: Meet Julien

Julien was born with Microtia, a condition where the external ear is underdeveloped. As a result, he experiences hearing loss in his right ear due to the closure of the ear canal. While he wears a hearing aid to help navigate the world around him, Julien’s condition is life-long and can impact speech development.

Julien is a happy, energetic boy who brings joy to those around him. He adores his sister, treasures his toys, and lights up when he’s swimming, dancing, traveling, or enjoying his gym classes.

With his infectious smile and resilient spirit, Julien reminds us that challenges don’t define a child—courage and love do. Supporting kids like Julien means creating a world where every child can reach their full potential.
