(LONG POST ALERT) Today is extra special because it’s Fern’s 10th birthday.!! It feels like the perfect time to share the story behind the name Fringe & Fern!!

When I was dreaming up a name for the salon, I knew I wanted something that felt personal, creative, and true to me. Fringe was a natural fit — it’s a hair term often used for bangs and felt playful, stylish, and industry-related. Fern was my little “sneaky” way of including the name of someone I love very much… my dog, Fern 😊

She’s our boss lady at home, full of personality, and has been such an important part of our lives. She’s been with us through so many seasons, growing with us, traveling and joining us on countless adventures and memories over the last 10 years. She’s truly been there for so many of our biggest moments, and anyone who knows us knows how much we adore her.

Beyond loving her name, I also learned that ferns symbolize eternal youth, growth, resilience, and new beginnings — which felt incredibly fitting for when I unexpectedly opened the salon and created a space centered around helping people feel refreshed, confident, and like the best version of themselves.

It also inspired the feel of our salon space — filled with lots of plants and greenery, with a fern plant as one of the focal points in our salon!

So today we’re celebrating the inspiration behind half of our name — and the very special girl! Happy 10th Birthday, Fern. Here are a few of my favorite photos of her over the years 🤍

Meet Amanda! 👋🏻

🌿 Amanda’s salon journey began in high school and continued at Pulse Beauty Academy, where she graduated in 2011. She spent the last 10 years as a Master Stylist with Ulta Beauty.

🌿 She specializes in color and dimensional highlights, and she loves finishing a look with a voluminous blowout.

🌿 What sets Amanda apart is her ability to truly connect with clients—she takes the time to understand their style goals and bring their vision to life.

🌿 When she’s not behind the chair, Amanda enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two sons.
