Longlegs came out two years ago today, and I still shiver in fear every time I watch it.

Every Cinema Series candle starts the same way: I rewatch one of my favorite movies, usually many times in a row, while taking notes on the elements that really speak to me.

With this one, it was the water. But not a clean, beach resort kind of water. I was trying to capture a kind of blue-collar, rough, threatening type of water, if that makes sense. A wicked, unpredictable ocean.

Plus I had to add an ever-so-slight hint of gasoline and the scent of an overworked boat engine.

Then there's the sand, obviously. A warm, sun-baked kind of sand, mixed with the woody aroma of washed up driftwood and dune grasses. Because it is summer, after all. It's the time for carefree fun. And when the sun goes down, we're still on the beach, huddled around the warming embers of a bonfire as we hear the ocean waves lapping onto the dark shore.

Amity took longer to get right than most of our candles. The first few prototypes leaned too clean, and later batches were too gritty, too harsh, too abrasive. But after dozens of tries, I finally got it right. This is an oceanic candle I am really proud of.
