I came across this post and wanted to share an educational breakdown because this is something many first-time extension clients may not know.

Extension installs should feel secure, but they should not leave the scalp sore, irritated, or feeling overly tight after a full week.

From the photo, this appears to be a single weft microlink application, possibly with a genius-style weft sewn onto a microbead base. This type of install can work beautifully when done correctly, but if the bead foundation and stitching are too tight, it can place too much tension on the scalp.

The bigger concern here is what looks like residue or melting near the base of the weft. Many genius-style wefts are made with a sealed top seam, which may include glue, silicone, or another bonding material. If too much heat is applied close to the base during blow drying or flat ironing, that seam can soften or melt and cause the natural hair and extension hair to bond together.

When that happens, removal can become more difficult and the risk of breakage increases.

My recommendation would be to have this removed as soon as possible by someone experienced with microlink or weft removals. I would not keep wearing an install that is causing soreness, pink irritation, or visible scalp stress.
