Shear Works Salon has a new built-in cabinet by yours truly, ! 31+ years behind the chair, but I’m always looking for ways to be more efficient. One of my clients last week said, “well this looks like you’re not quitting doing hair anytime soon”. 😝 I’m loving the size of this new piece, it’s design and functionality. I wanted my trash bin, hamper, and vacuum integrated, big drawers for storage, and a nice working countertop with lighting! I made it all work. It started with another crazy idea in my head, a tape measure , a sketch book, and 4x8 sheets of 3/4” plywood. Finished with 1” flutes cut into the doors and drawer fronts one groove at a time, obscure plastic windows for the doors, stained and protected wood countertop, pretty hardware, soft-close glides and hinges, and Wise Owl One Hour Enamel in Jet Black. I’m loving it!

Deja vu! We’ve seen this color combo before. Like in 2017! This cute momma wanted a repeat because it was her favorite. And she can totally pull it off!

Also- who knew it was Sister’s Day at Shear Works Salon today? I had two different sets of sisters in my chair. Fun!

Is she a natural redhead?
Nope. 🧡 And she gets asked all of the time.

And I love this girl. We’ve colored her hair almost every shade in my color book, and it’s amazing every time.

Finally, a lightener that cuts brass and tones at the same time!
Megan and I have been fighting brass in her level four hair for a while, until now! I discovered and it’s made a world of difference for her. The lightener combined with charcoal shampoo and conditioner is a game changer. The charcoal neutralizes any orange tones. 🤍

And then we styled with the new , it makes quick work of a straight blow out while smoothing. 🧡

These are hilarious. I mean who doesn’t love a good mullet?

I’ve been thinking all week about this sweet lady. Trying to put in to words my best depiction of what she has meant to me. Sadly she passed away last Friday.
Suzanne has been a loyal client, every three weeks for over 24 years. But my clients are not just another head of hair, they become friends, they become family. And Suzanne was family. Her husband is family, her kids and grandkids are family. And she loved them all so much.
I looked forward to every visit Suzanne made to my salon. It was very hard toward the end for her to make it down my stairs, but she loved getting her hair done and was so grateful to me every time. She always wanted to look her best. I enjoyed our conversations. Her bragging about her beautiful grandkids, sharing pictures with me. Her wisdom and advice. Her support for Darin and I and her presence and support at our events throughout the years. How fun it was to have her and Kent at our Halloween parties. They even attended our temple sealing in 2004 and invited us to all of their special family events- mission farewells, weddings, etc.
I had the honor of doing her hair one final time yesterday. Not usually an easy task. But as I walked into the room, she looked SO good, whole, and at peace. I got an overwhelming feeling of her love and appreciation. It gave me a chance to reflect on all of the years of friendship we developed just because she happened to sit in my chair that first time all those years ago. I feel so honored and blessed to have had this opportunity. After I did her hair her daughter, Becca came to finish dressing her. I was able to help. Becca and I shared some tender moments, hugs and tears. Becca reiterated the fact that Suzanne was the best mom.
Today her loving husband and children will lead in celebrating her life. No doubt she has impacted many over the years. An instant, genuine friend.
I already miss you, sweet Suzanne. I know you are no longer in pain, you and Joe have not stopped hugging and holding hands, you’re skipping and laughing, and dancing. And I know you’ll continue to take care of your family from above.
I love you. Thank you for being everything you have been for me. Fly high. 💐🤍
