BLACK BOX DYE ➡️ LIVED-IN BLONDE: A play by play of tHAIRapy with Mackenzie ‘s ✨realistic✨ box dye correction process session by session!

Swipe through this one in order, because Mackenzie documented the process from beginning to end — including the scary part clients normally never get to see until they’re in the chair!

🖤 Photo 1 — Starting canvas: Black box dye. (June 25th)

🧡 Photo 2 — MIDWAY through Session #1: After two Malibu CPR treatments + global lightening. Yep… ORANGE. 🔥 And completely expected! When removing years of dark artificial pigment, all of that underlying warmth has to be exposed before it can be corrected. This was not her finished color, this was a few hours into the process.

✨ Photo 3 — End of Session #1: After neutralizing that warmth, strategically highlighting/lowlighting and toning with a major haircut, we had officially made it through the first round.

🤎 Photo 4 — Session #2, (July 16th): Another controlled highlighting session to continue breaking through the remaining artificial pigment while prioritizing the integrity of her hair.

👱🏼‍♀️ Photos 5 & 6 — (August 5th): One more subtle partial highlight + a full 22-inch weft extension install and LOOK where we ended up. 🤯

Black box dye to blonde is a JOURNEY — not a 4-hour appointment. More like a 6-8 week commitment of multiple hour sessions… but look! It’s worth it! 😍

Color correction means working with what the hair safely gives us at each appointment. Orange and gold aren’t necessarily “mistakes” during this process — they’re literally the underlying pigments we have to travel through to get from dark artificial color to blonde. We can’t defy the laws of chemistry (or the color wheel!)

Could Mackenzie have tried to force her lighter in the first appointment? Sure. Would having blonde hair matter much if half of it was in the salon floor? Not particularly. 😂

This transformation took 3 carefully spaced sessions over approximately 7 weeks, plus a healthy cut and extensions to create the final length — and THAT is what realistic color correction can look like. 👏🏼

Healthy hair FIRST. Dream hair second. Patience gets you both. (And so does k18!) 🩷
