I’m more than a Hair & Makeup Artist.

And I think our industry needs to have a bigger conversation about what that actually means.

“Hair & Makeup Artist” can sound like a very simple job description: show up, do the hair, apply the makeup, and leave.

But that description misses so much of the work.

In my lane, beauty is only one part of what I do.

There is scheduling.
There is talent coordination.
There is production awareness.
There is time management.
There is client relations.
There is communication.
There is wardrobe and overall image consideration.
There is logistics.
There is problem-solving.
There is maintaining relationships and understanding the environment you’re working in.
There is managing a schedule where being five minutes late can affect an entire production.

And there is an enormous amount of administrative and operational work happening behind the scenes that people never see.

When you work in television, sports, entertainment, corporate environments, or with high-profile talent, you aren’t simply applying products.

You are managing an experience.

You are understanding the person in your chair, the brand they represent, the environment they’re entering, the people they’re interacting with, and the expectations of the organization you’re working within.

That requires professionalism, discretion, emotional intelligence, organization, adaptability, and business acumen.

This is where I think Beauty Professionals are often misunderstood.

We can get overlooked-or even denied opportunities- because our titles make people assume our skill set begins and ends with the technical service.

It doesn’t.

There are incredibly talented professionals in this industry who have developed years of experience in operations, production, communications, client management, talent relations, branding, leadership and business administration- while also being exceptional at their craft.

I know this because I’ve lived it.

My career has allowed me to work at the intersection of beauty, television, sports, entertainment, talent and media.

And I’m becoming increasingly interested in having the conversation about everything that happens behind the chair.

What does it actually take to be a successful Beauty Consultant in these environments?

What skills are required that never appear in the job description?

What does the business side of being a beauty professional actually look like?

And why aren’t we talking about these professionals as the multifaceted business professionals that they are?

Maybe it’s time we expand the way we see the role.

Because sometimes the person holding the makeup brush is also the person managing the room, the schedule, the talent, the client relationship, the logistics and the experience.

That’s more than beauty.

My Latest News

I have accepted a new job in North Carolina. My last day of work is July 11th. I am sorry if you have an appointment booked later in the month. I won't be here to honor it.

I am referring clients to Elle Glass, who is at Paul LaBrecque Salon (https://ppweb.prosoinc.com/?ac=16180) located in the Slat House at The Royal. She also tweezes brows only, as well as makeup, facials, etc. I will share with her my secret brow tinting formulas.

I have added some hours of work on July 3rd, 12:00 to 3:00. You can book your appointment online. I will let you know if I can fit another day of work before I move. Do put yourself on my waitlist online. If I get a cancellation, you will be notified immediately. It is faster than if I have to call you directly.
