She’s mom,
the invisible woman.

And yes, her kids see her. She’s their mom, after all, and they’re around her, calling her name non-stop.
“Mom, can you get me a snack?”
“Mom, I hurt myself!”
“MOMMMM!”

But when she’s doing ALL THE THINGS, like magic, she becomes invisible.

This invisible woman can be on the phone,
and her kids will ask where their toys are,
and if pizzas for dinner,
as if they don’t see her engaged in conversation.

But they don’t see her on the phone,
just like they don’t see her cooking,
doing laundry,
any of it.

Some moments she feels like a human hanger,
as they pile everything into her arms to carry:
backpacks, coats, and hats

In other moments she's a vacuum,
every time they knock the crayons on the floor... she picks them up.

And other times, she's a lean post when they need to rest their heads,
when they have a bad day,
or fight with a friend.

But she’s nothing more.

She’s disappeared into the peanut butter and jelly.
She’s disappeared into the rush to do anything for herself.
She’s disappeared into the mess and chaos that never goes away no matter how much she cleans.

But maybe right now,
she’s not meant to be noticed for everything she does.
It’s a time she’s there to protect,
support,
and be their go-to person
from peeling an orange to a comforting hug.

And maybe that’s okay for right now,
until they get older and start to appreciate it all.

Because if her children feel the love she pours into them,
and love her in return.

The truth is,
she’s not so invisible after all.
