Homemade vanilla extract = ridiculously easy and so worth it. Just vanilla beans, alcohol, and a little patience. No fancy skills needed. Your future baking will thank you. I made a cinnamon vanilla, coffee vanilla, and bourbon vanilla extracts last time and they were all delicious! The cinnamon was my favorite. Comment "vanilla" and I'll send you the recipe!

Not all protein is created equal. A steak and a processed meat snack might both say “high protein,” but your body treats them differently.

Whole-food proteins usually come with more nutrients and less junk.

Ingredients matter. Processing matters.

Your protein source can affect energy, fullness, recovery, and long-term health more than people realize.

Did you know your uterus is like a super stretchy balloon during pregnancy? It grows big to hold baby, then shrinks back down! Here's the fun timeline.

Baby Bump Magic

Before pregnancy: Tiny, like a pear in your belly (about 2-3 inches).

By 12 weeks: Grows to softball size to protect baby.

At 36 weeks: Huge, like a watermelon (up to 20 inches across!).

It stretches safely with help from baby-making hormones.

Shrinking Back Home

Right after birth: Big as a grapefruit, but starts squeezing small fast!

1-2 weeks: Down to orange size.

6 weeks: Back to pre-baby size, good as new!

Mommy's body hugs and nurses to help it along. You're amazing!

Growing a baby takes more than just the basics.

Most prenatal vitamins give you things like B vitamins, vitamin A, C, D, choline, and iron, but they barely include key minerals like magnesium and potassium that help your baby’s muscles, heart, and brain grow strong.

Pregnant women fall about 100-130mg short on magnesium, and 600-900mg short on potassium based on average daily intakes. Make sure you're getting enough!

Higher potassium can be a powerful helper for your heart and brain. Studies show that people who get more potassium may lower their risk of stroke by as much as about 25%, especially when their sodium (salt) intake is kept moderate.

Potassium and sodium work like a balance in your body. Too much sodium and not enough potassium can raise your blood pressure and stress your blood vessels. Getting enough potassium, along with a reasonable amount of sodium, can help protect them and support healthy blood flow.

If you use electrolytes, or even if you don't, and you’re at risk for stroke, it’s important to look at the label. Choose an electrolyte mix where the potassium amount is much higher than the sodium amount. This kind of balance can better support healthy blood pressure and lower stroke risk over time.

It's also important to note: Reduced risk does not mean prevents strokes.

Everyone’s health is different, and some people need to limit potassium or sodium for medical reasons. Always talk with your doctor or a dietitian before changing your diet!

Potassium is a quiet helper for your blood pressure that many people don’t think about.

When you get enough potassium and don’t eat way too much salt, it can help lower and steady your blood pressure in a natural way.

Its a modest change but can be very helpful in those that need only a small change in blood pressure, for example 170/105 you need to see a doctor and supplementing potassium will not fix this, 132/86 potassium and exercise could absolutely help lower your blood pressure to a reasonable place!

You can find potassium in foods like bananas, potatoes, beans, yogurt, and leafy greens. But most people still don't get enough so sometimes supplementing can help.

Regular movement also matters a lot.

Walking, light workouts, or playing outside most days of the week can help your heart stay strong and your blood pressure more stable.

Always talk to your doctor before changing your diet, supplements, or exercise routine so you can stay safe and get the right plan for you.

Dihydrogen monoxide sounds scary, right?
It burns skin, fills lungs, and almost everyone uses it daily… yet no one talks about it.

Here’s the twist: dihydrogen monoxide is just water.
If you’re giving health advice and didn't know that… maybe you shouldn’t be giving health advice. 😬

Before you panic about ‘dihydrogen monoxide,’ remember: understanding basics matters more than big, scary words. Always question your sources before you trust their health tips.

Have you ever noticed how nutrition headlines keep changing? One day a food is “dangerous”… the next day it’s called “healthy.” 🤔

Researchers once looked into this by picking random foods from a cookbook and checking the studies about them.

They found something surprising: for many foods, some studies linked them to higher cancer risk, while others linked them to lower risk.

Why does that happen?

A big reason is how nutrition studies work. Many rely on food surveys, where people try to remember what they ate months or even years ago. That’s not always very accurate.

Plus, many of these studies were barely statistically significant so they don't carry much scientific weight but a study showing a very small effect is more likely to be published than one that doesn't show any significance.

Also, people who eat different foods often have different lifestyles—things like exercise, income, smoking habits, and healthcare access. Those factors can affect health results too.

That’s why one single study rarely tells the whole story.

The better approach is to focus on the basics:
eat a variety of whole foods, stay active, and make sure your family gets the nutrients they need.

Nutrition headlines may sound dramatic, but long-term healthy habits matter far more than one food.

Drinking tons of water but still feel thirsty or dry?

It's not just H2O, your body needs electrolytes too! Sweat, workouts, and lack of enough from the diet, wash away sodium, potassium & magnesium. Plain water can't hold onto fluids without them.

Quick Fixes:

Add electrolytes

Cut back on things that make you p*e more (like alcohol).

Eat fruits/veggies for natural balance. (this should be the first line of defense!)

Hydrate SMART, not just more!
