Welcome to Queens Corner!

🌞Hello Summer!!🌞

Each month Queens Court will be rolling out a protocol of the month and a regimen of the month. These two offerings will be season specific and will focus on ingredients that your skin might be needing now and the why behind it.
My second goal of this newsletter, is that it becomes share worthy with your friends, family and colleagues. I am looking forward to creating more treatments and specialized protocols for you all!

Navigating Summertime Skin Challenges Final Thoughts, I promise:

Last months newsletter was focused on SPF and Pollution. Recently, I have had a bunch of clients mention that after they come back from vacation they always seem to get, what they describe as the "summertime flu" and felt it was important to push out one more piece of important sun related information that I failed to touch upon in that newsletter and that is:

The Summertime Flu Myth:
When skin burns, it's not just turning red; it is being locked into a sick state. Sun abuse chases off the macrophages - these are the clean up crew of your immune system. Burning skin creates a triple depletion:

1. Vitamin C loss (immunity)
2. Vitamin E loss (healing)
3. Vitamin A loss (cell renewal)

This is why some of my clients return from vacation with what they believe is the "summertime Flu". You have chased off your immune cells through sun abuse and now you cannot fight off environmental germs and particulate matter. This is why I recommend topical Vitamin C and Vitamin E serums under your sunscreen. Both Vitamin C and E can help reinforce immunity.

Vitamin D Myth:
One of the biggest Vitamin D myths is the name itself. Vitamin D is not a vitamin, it is a secosteroid hormone. Vitamin D is called a vitamin because of a historical labeling error in the early 20th century.
When ultraviolet B rays hit the epidermis and are absorbed, they trigger a complex chemical conversion. This hormone does not just help bones; it is a master regulator for the immune system, weight management, mood stability and cellular mitosis.

🌞Hello Summer!!🌞

Each month Queens Court will be rolling out a protocol of the month and a regimen of the month. These two offerings will be season specific and will focus on ingredients that your skin might be needing now and the why behind it.

Navigating Summertime Skin Challenges:

This month we officially welcome summer! And with it comes more time outdoors and more exposure to UVA/UVB and pollution. For those of us living in the city, particulate matter numbers increase as the ozone drops. This means leveling up our defenses in 2 areas: Sunscreen and barrier protection. In this issue I will clarify and myth bust in these two topics.

1. Sun Protection Factor: I get it, really I do. If my eyes have to read one more piece of information on SPF and the UV index I am going to scream. So let me introduce some material that you may have not read before.
SPF 30: Blocks about 97% of UVB rays.
SPF 50: Blocks about 98% of UVB rays.

UVA Vs. UVB Rays: UVA rays primary effect on the skin is aging, pigmentation and cancer. UVB rays primary effect on the skin is sunburn and cancer.

HEV Light: High Energy Visible Light. Like UVA, HEV Light can pe*****te deep into the skin, causing collagen and elastin damage that leads to premature aging. This is a real culprit, you can't see it with the naked eye or feel it. It overlaps with blue-violet light and has a higher energy than other visible wavelengths.

Main Sources of HEV Light: Sunlight - The largest source, far more than screens. Indoor lighting (LEDs) and digital devices (phones, laptops and tablets). While electronics are a source of HEV Light, days and days of screen time equates to mere minutes of sunlight. Therefore, avoiding excessive sun exposure is key to minimizing HEV light absorption.

How SPF Works: Mineral vs. Chemical.

Mineral sunscreen: is a physical barrier containing Zinc Oxide, Titanium dioxide. It reflects, scatters and absorbs UV rays. This formula is great for sensitive skin, but can easily be wiped away or removed. This will leave a white cast on darker skin types.

Chemical sunscreen: Contains primarily Avobenzone and Octocrylene and absorbs UV rays. Chemical sunscreens have a lighter feel, provides better coverage and does not leave a white cast on the skin. However, it may irritate the eyes. This sunscreen is great for large pores, facial hair and darker skin tones.

MYTH VS FACT:
Myth: Darker skin types don't need SPF
*Fact: All skin needs UVA protection regardless of shade
Myth: SPF 100 blocks all rays
*Fact: No sunscreen blocks 100% of UVA/UVB rays
Myth: Don't need SPF when it's cloudy
*Fact: Up to 80% of UV rays pass through clouds
Myth: Sunscreen causes Vitamin D deficiency
*Fact: Minimal effect, SPF doesn't block all UV rays. No credible data provides this is true.
Myth: I don't need to wear sunscreen in my house (or driving)
*Fact: UVA rays pe*****te through glass and bounces off surfaces. Wear the damn sunscreen indoors.

Don't Risk It: 1 in 5 people will develop skin cancer by age 70. UV radiation is a major carcinogen that can be easily avoided. Sunscreen has become incredibly sophisticated, find one that works for your skin and stay with it!! I am happy to recommend my top face and body SPFs, feel free to reach out for a consult!

2. Pollution Defense: This is another topic that has been heavy on my mind. Its right up there with HEV Light exposure. You can't see it or feel it and yet the havoc it wreaks is in fact, very visible. When challenges arise, solutions follow. The skin sector evolves in response to shifting environments. 10 years ago, the focus was on products with sun and broad-spectrum protection. Now, as city skylines grow hazier, another threat to skin health has come into direct focus: Pollution.

Oxidative Stress and Cellular Damage: Microscopic pollutants generate free radicals that attack lipids, proteins and DNA. This Oxidative stress compromises cellular integrity and accelerates collagen and elastin breakdown - two hallmarks of aging skin. Over time the damage accelerates visible aging and weakens skin's natural defenses. The most widely recognized defense against pollution induced oxidative stress is antioxidants. Highly effective antioxidants in skincare include:
*Vitamin C
*Vitamin E
*Ferulic Acid (plant derived found in grains, fruits and vegetables)
*Polyphenols (green tea, resvervatrol, grape seed extract)
*Carotenoids (beta carotene and lutein)
Like an unseen intruder, pollution quietly impacts skin every day. Antipollution skincare uses actives and functional ingredients to neutralize pollutants, strengthen the skin barrier and support renewal.

Glymed products I recommend (and use myself) for us city dwellers: *Restoring Fulvic Elixir
*Protective Skin Serum with Ceremides
*Peptide Serum
*Daily Skin Clarifier
*Oxygen Cream
*Daily Repair Cream
*Vitamin E Cream
*Vitamin C Cream
If you are a city or suburban dweller and think you may need to up your antipollution strategy, please schedule time with me. I would be happy to show you how to maximize your protection and streamline your morning and evening routine! Click through to my website or email me at: [email protected].

*Training Updates*

No trainings in May. I had a death in the family that pretty much occupied my month of May and the first week of June, hence the lateness of my newsletter.

*June Featured Offerings*

*Protocol of the Month: Glow Guard. Target hyperpigmentation by visibly evening skin tone and supporting a brighter, more radiant complexion. Reinforcing the skin’s natural defense against UV exposure—a major cause of discoloration and premature aging. By combining correction with protection, this facial leaves the skin clearer, smoother and better able to maintain its natural glow.

*Regimen of the Month: Breakout Breakup. Breakouts don’t stand a chance! This at-home regimen helps keep pores clear, balance excess oil and soothe visible inflammation so your skin stays smooth and even. With consistent use, you’ll notice fewer flare-ups and
a clearer, calmer complexion
Treatment is complementary with product purchase, now 20% off!
