The surgery may last a few hours, but healing is a journey that unfolds over weeks and months and often comes with emotions patients don’t expect.
The swelling that seems worse before it gets better. The moments of doubt. The impatience. The comparison trap. The feeling of wondering if you’re healing “normally.”

What do you wish someone had told you about recovery before surgery?

When we think about facial aging, it’s not just about wrinkles, it’s about direction.
If you look closely before surgery, you’ll notice:
• The corners of the mouth begin to turn downward
• The nasolabial folds deepen
• The mid-cheek area starts to hollow
• The outer corners of the eyes descend
• The tail of the brow develops a downward slant
Over time, the face gradually shifts downward.
A comprehensive facial rejuvenation procedure is designed to restore those structures back upward, creating a more lifted, rested, and refreshed appearance while still looking natural.
These photos are only 7 days post-op on a weight loss patient, so swelling and healing are still very early in the process. Even so, you can already begin to appreciate the change in facial direction and support.
As healing continues, we’ll also address skin quality with lasers and restore additional volume where needed for the final refinement.

Male vs. female eyelid and facial rejuvenation procedures require very different surgical approaches.
Dr. Kusuma recently performed similar procedures on two unrelated patients, one male and one female, highlighting the nuanced differences in technique and aesthetic goals between genders.
For male patients:
• The sharpening of the outer eye corners is kept more subtle
• Upper eyelid skin and muscle removal is more conservative
• Procedures are often more functional than cosmetic in nature
• Male patients also tend to be older on average at the time of surgery
For female patients:
• Brow elevation is often used to help create a sharper, lifted outer eye appearance
• Lower eyelid surgery is more commonly performed at the same time
• The overall aesthetic goal is typically softer, brighter, and more lifted

Immediate post-op view from this morning’s case 👁️
This patient had an upper eyelid blepharoplasty to remove excess skin and an UltraClear laser treatment to the lower lids to tighten and rejuvenate the skin without surgery.
We were intentional about preserving the orbital fat to maintain a natural, youthful contour. Unlike some higher-profile results (Bradley Cooper’s eyelids come to mind, where aggressive fat removal left a noticeably over-resected/hollowed appearance), our goal here was conservative fat preservation for a refreshed but still authentic look.
Early healing looks great, swelling and bruising expected over the next few days. Can’t wait to see the final result!
