This is Josephine—friend of Doug’s. I took him to the ER this morning because he was having uncontrollable pain and bruising from hematoma that was spreading from his recent gallbladder removal incision site. We made it back home around 3:30PM. I picked up his medications and he is trying to rest.

What would be most helpful is donating or sharing the Gofundme again (and thanks again to those who have—https://gofund.me/db3844a8c), occasional help letting the dogs out or refilling their bowls, since he can’t work and needs to recover.

Please send thoughts and prayers as he recovers as he in an extreme amount of pain and needs help financially to cover bills. Thank you so much!

🚨 UPDATE FROM DOUG - TUES, JULY 28, 2026 😞

Doug is currently at Menorah Medical Center undergoing emergency gallbladder removal surgery. This has been an incredibly difficult time for him, especially after being hospitalized very recently. 😣His entire career—and so much of his identity—has been centered around helping others feel confident, beautiful, and like the best version of themselves. Being forced to step away from doing what he loves has been so incredibly hard for him.

Today, we would like to discuss ways to better set you apart from everyone else to help you become the busiest and most successful stylist you want to be.

I have learned in this industry so often clients are wanting to get a quality service obviously. Sadly though in so many cases I have also learned a very important lesson with many of today’s world. They also are looking for true engagement with you as a person and they want to feel heard and connected with service providers. For so long in our industry and many other industries people have been a commodity of some type. Now that has been a business model long enough and in enough industries (including healthcare!) that people expect more. Honestly, they should as well! I know in my life there’s nothing more frustrating than when I am involved with any type of service providers that don’t seem to understand at that moment I am spending my money with them for whatever service in a sense I have already paid for their TIME! So, be respectful of this!!!! Client’s will immediately realize that you are providing something above and beyond what they’ve become used to. That’s Rule 1 that will gain people’s trust and engagement. NEVER make a promise to a client that you know that you can’t follow through on!!!

Another important bit of advice I have is always be true to what you think is the correct solution for any given problem that you are presented by a client. It took me many years to realize the level of trust that client’s put in me for my skills yes but, more importantly sometimes because my client’s know that I will always give my HONEST point of view when asked a question about a new cut/color/style of any kind. I have also become comfortable enough at this time to even tell a client that “No, I don’t do that style or color.” Clearly if that’s the case I have no problem explaining to them the reasons why I said no." - Doug
