Teamwork. Everyone had a role in it.

Ten years ago today, the Wichita Force won the league championship.

"Everyone had a role in it," was something players often said, not just to me, but to staff, owners, interns, volunteers, sponsors, and fans. Even the fans received championship ring replicas.

We were a team. The only opponents were the teams we played on game day. Even then, they weren't truly against us. They were part of the playful competitiveness that makes sports exciting. In many ways, the entire league is part of the same community.

Years later, I experienced a very different culture. Instead of "we," there was an "us versus them" mentality. When that mindset develops between owners, staff, players, or even the people who support the organization, it creates distance instead of connection. Teams become divided, and everyone feels it.

If you own a business, remember that your clients, customers, and fans are there because they want to support you. Your employees and contractors are there because they believe in contributing their skills. Success comes from recognizing that everyone has a role.

To win as a team, you need to be a team.

For the past year and a half, I have been dealing with depression, with it being the heaviest the first 6.5 months of 2023. I could barely function, which created a huge mess of every aspect of my life. I remained hopeful and optimistic, knowing that nothing in life is permanent, including my depression. Yet, it continued to get worse to the point that I felt like a zombie. Eventually, I was led to therapy. It immediately helped remove the dark cloud above me. I'm now cleaning up the mess.

No matter the sport, has the BEST fans!

For the past 3 seasons with the , I've stood on the other side of that glass, in front of that orange cooler. They are so much fun to listen to during the games. They are great with the refs, the opposing team, and of course our players. They started buying and giving me M&Ms during games a couple seasons ago and have now included M&Ms for the Athletic Trainers as well. He said, "You guys are an important part of the team and you should also feel special."
