This is one of our favorite stretches — we use it often on the massage table, but it’s easy enough to do at home too!
The Figure 4 stretch targets your hips, glutes, and lower back, helping release tension that builds up from sitting, driving, or even just existing in today’s busy world. It’s a simple way to improve mobility and ease discomfort in the lower body.
✨ How to do it:
Lie on your back and cross one ankle over the opposite thigh, forming a “4.”
Gently pull your bottom leg toward your chest until you feel a comfortable stretch through your hip and glute.
Hold for 20–30 seconds, then switch sides.
💡 Want to modify it?
You can do this stretch seated! Sit tall in a sturdy chair, cross one ankle over the opposite knee, and gently lean forward until you feel the stretch.
Personally, I find this stretch easiest to do while lying in bed — a few breaths before sleep and again before getting up in the morning can make a big difference in how your hips feel throughout the day. 🌙✨

Why Relaxation Matters — Even in Therapeutic Massage
When you come in for a therapeutic session, it’s natural to focus on the areas causing pain or tension. But here’s something we often remind clients — relaxation is part of the therapy.
When your body relaxes, your nervous system shifts from “fight or flight” into “rest and digest.” This allows muscles to release more deeply, circulation to improve, and healing to happen more effectively.
If you stay tense — even unintentionally — your body holds onto stress and resists change. The more you relax, the more your therapist can work with your body instead of against it.
So next time you’re on the table, give yourself permission to let go.
Relaxation isn’t the opposite of therapeutic work — it’s what makes it work.

National Massage Therapy Awareness Week
October 19–25 💚
This week is all about celebrating the healing power of touch and the professionals who make it possible. Massage therapy isn’t just about relaxation (though that’s a wonderful bonus!) — it’s about improving circulation, easing pain, supporting recovery, and helping you feel more at home in your body.
At Health & Healing, we’re proud to be part of a profession dedicated to wellness, compassion, and care. Each session is more than a massage — it’s a moment to reset, reconnect, and restore balance.
💛 Take a little time this week to celebrate your body. Schedule a massage, stretch, or simply pause to breathe deeply. You deserve it.

October marks the start of the holiday season — a whirlwind of events, family gatherings, and endless to-do lists that carry us all the way into the new year.
Before the tailspin begins, take a moment to slow down and care for you.
Massage isn’t just about relaxation — it’s a reset for your body and mind, helping you refill your cup so you can show up fully for the people and moments that matter most.
Self-care is not selfish. It’s vital.
You can’t pour from an empty cup.

Finding the right balance matters.
This “Stress Curve” shows how productivity is connected to the amount of pressure we feel. A little bit of stress can actually motivate us, but too much can quickly tip into anxiety, irritability, or even burnout. On the flip side, too little pressure may leave us feeling inactive or unmotivated.
The sweet spot is somewhere in the middle — where your body and mind feel supported, alert, and productive. Massage therapy can be a valuable tool in keeping you balanced, reducing unnecessary stress while restoring your energy so you can show up as your best self.

You really are one massage away from a better mood!
Massage does more than relax your muscles — it also works wonders for your mind. Here’s why:
✨ Massage stimulates the release of endorphins (your body’s natural feel-good chemicals).
✨ It lowers cortisol (the stress hormone).
✨ It can boost serotonin and dopamine, which play a big role in regulating mood, sleep, and even pain perception.
Studies have shown massage can help reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, making it a powerful tool for emotional as well as physical wellness.
Next time you’re feeling run down, remember: caring for your body also means caring for your mind.
