For some, breakouts may not be that big of a deal, but for others they can ruin and otherwise good day. They seem to come out of nowhere just before a big work presentation, special event or family gathering. Oftentimes, the attempts to camouflage them only make them standout even more - - as of to say “look at me!”

There are ways to prevent breakout and knowing the cause is your first line of defense.

😩Stress alone doesn’t cause breakouts but the release of certain hormones leads to excess oil and inflammation which you guessed it…leads to breakouts.

🧴 Some skin care products may also be to blame for breakouts. Oil based makeup 💄 can clog pores so switch to products that are noncomedogenic, which don’t clog pores.

🍕 we don’t want to say goodbye to that yummy slice but studies have shown that high glycemic foods can make acne worse. You’ll need to cut white breads, rice and pasta for starters and then add in baked goods🧁 and just about anything with sugar 🍭.

💦 Dehydration is another contributor that leads to breakouts. Our bodies need water 💧 and when we don’t get enoug water this causes our bodies to increase oil production thereby triggering a breakout.

🚬 Yes, smoking is not only harmful to your lungs and premature aging but many studies suggest it also contributes to acne. Studies have shown that smoking alters the composition and production of sebum (oil), thus leading to acne.

🛌 When we sleep, our body heals. Energy is restored, cells regenerate, and blood supply increases to the muscles, bones and tissues, grow and repair. When our bodies are deprived of the necessary sleep this leads to stress which then leads to increased oil production resulting in breakouts.

The bottom line, breakouts are inevitable but there are ways to prevent them!
