How cold is it in NC?
Sofa King Cold!
You don’t need to get to the park
It’s January 9, 2025.
I’m in Wilmington North Carolina.
26° with the feels like temp of 14°. But a dog‘s gotta go for a walk when a dog‘s gotta go for a walk!
I bundled myself up very well. On the way to the park, I encountered a neighbor who could tell that I was freezing my face off, he told me “once you get into the park and you’re in the sun, it gets much better“.
Lulu and I hurried on our way.
The entrance to the park is a sneaky pathway that takes you from the neighborhood into the park itself.
It’s pretty well shaded.
It also happens to be one of Lulu‘s favorite places to sniff the ivy.
I’m running in place and waving my arms trying to stay warm, to no avail.
I didn’t wanna hurry her on her way because, sidenote, dogs burn more calories sniffing than they do walking. But I digress…
While jumping up and down and twisting my body to stay warm, my face caught a shaft of sun peeking between the trees.
I stopped.
I felt the warm glow of the sun from my face all the way down to my toes.
I had a bit of a revelation.
I was so fixated on getting to the park that I wasn’t allowing myself to be present.
Sometimes it takes no more than a step to the side, a twist in another direction or simply a tilt of the head.
Seeking the sunshine, even just a slice, right where you are is much more gratifying than racing to get somewhere in hopes of finding ALL of the sunshine.

Thanks for all the love and support y’all are sending. Keep the prayers coming and to those of you who have come over to the house thank you so much. Lulu and I appreciate the love and the distraction.
Yesterday morning, her incision looked really bad. There were a couple of spots that looked to be pulling apart. And more fluid is draining. Looks like mostly serous fluid but pretty heavily tinged with blood.
The veterinary practice is having me send them daily updates with pictures and/or videos to monitor. Yesterday‘s video prompted an in-home visit by my liaison from the hospital and a vet tech. They brought all of the necessary equipment and supplies to be able to properly scrub the incision clean, irrigate it and bring me a prescription for antibiotics. They left me with the equipment and supplies to be able to cleanse and irrigate on my own. They also brought me a stack of extra large T-shirts to use to keep her covered up so that the fluid isn’t leaking all over the place. The pulling away of the incision closure it is what is known as dehiscence.
The dehiscence is worse this morning than it was yesterday. Overnight, she soaked through the T-shirt on that side, where the incision is. She’s already on her second T-shirt of the day as it continues to seep fluid.
Glad that she’s finally on some antibiotics.
They’ve contacted the board certified surgeon that does work for them and she’s seen the images and claims that it’s all part of the normal healing process. However, I’m warned not to clean it, not to irrigate it, not to put any product on it and to keep a T-shirt on…changing as needed.
