So I’ve got a bit of an announcement to make - I’m planning on taking an extended hiatus from running Golden Magnolia. There are a couple of reasons why I’m making this pretty difficult decision. The first has to do with a state of burnout that’s become my constant operating state for the past few years. I’m sure none of us are strangers to the feeling of overwhelm that constant access to technology and information create, and every time I log onto Instagram I feel my capacity to actually sit with the present moment being eroded while also losing my ability to appreciate the only thing this app is good for - connecting with y’all, my community. It’s also an absolutely fu***ng brutal time to be a small business owner - the economy is in shambles and the constant strain of financial uncertainty by the end of 2025 was taking a major toll on me.
But the biggest reason we’re taking a hiatus is that I’ve felt paralyzed for years with the business at this point - I’ve been wanting to create growth and put all my cool ideas about how to grow into practice but I’m just stuck. I don’t have the energy to move forward in a positive and meaningful way and the end result is that I’m exhausted and incredibly frustrated with myself while not moving the needle at all in terms of business growth. There’s still so much I want to see Golden Magnolia become, but when I honestly think about the version of myself I am right now, I know she’s not the person to bring those visions to fruition. A business can only be as healthy as its owner, and the hard truth is that I’m not very healthy right now. It’s a difficult thing to face that I’m the factor that’s holding Golden Magnolia back, especially when I’ve been met by such amazing support from my community for so many years. It’s important to me that I reward y’all’s support with the healthiest and best version of myself and our products, so I’m taking a break.
What does this look like moving forward? We’ll only be attending for a couple of Saturdays over the winter, and we’ll be shutting down the website as well. (Continued in comments)

Learn the science of candle making by pouring your very own customizable candle! You’ll start by visiting our vessel bar to pick out your favorite container for your candle, then you can mix and match fragrances to create your perfect scent. After that you’ll mix and pour your candle. While we wait for your candle to set we’ll take a beer drinking & bingo-playing break (which is probably my favorite part cause I’m an old person stuck in a 28 year old body 😅). The last step to crafting your dream candle is adding any botanicals your heart desires, and we’ll send you on your merry way with your new candle in hand.

Today is the five year (⁉️⁉️⁉️) anniversary of Golden Magnolia, so it seemed like a great time to do a meet the maker post! Hi, I’m Grace 👋 and I started Golden Magnolia back in 2020 after losing both of my jobs during the pandemic. I’d always enjoying baking and creating interesting and inventive flavor combinations, and decided to try my hand at soap and candle making. It has absolutely been a wild journey - I knew small business ownership wouldn’t be easy but I didn’t know that it would lead me down a path of radical transformation. Owning a business teaches you so much about yourself - your strengths as well as the self-limiting beliefs you hold, the tenacity you need to have to keep moving forward even when it feels like you’re fu***ng up left, right and center. More than anything, my biggest lesson has been learning how to extend compassion and grace to myself when things aren’t going the way I want, instead of using shame and fear of failure to motivate myself. It’s a journey I wouldn’t be on without you guys, and for that I’m so grateful to y’all. Here’s to another five years of growing, making fancy soap, celebrating our wins and learning from our losses 🫶
