Fix Your Digestion
Dr. Jillian Teta: author of "Natural Solutions for Digestive Health" & expert in integrative approaches to gastrointestinal health www.fixyourdigestion.com
Gastrointestinal complaints are extremely common and a major reason why people seek medical help. Conventional drug treatment, while it may be beneficial for symptom relief in the short-term, does little to address the question of WHY you are having symptoms in the first place. Dr. Jillian Teta uses her extensive knowledge and clinical expertise to help you uncover and address these underlying reasons so you can get back to your life. Dr. Jillian Sarno Teta is a naturopathic physician, Metabolic Effect (ME) team member and JillFit Physiques lifestyle coach.

Flowers on flowers! A riot of color! Aka: what the color of your stool is telling you…
💩🌷
Normal bowel movements range in color from medium to dark brown. Color can vary based on what you eat & if you are currently experiencing digestive distress, but there are a few notes we can make about color 🌈
Silly putty/beige colored stool 🥯
If your stool consistently shows up like this, you could have gallstones or a gallbladder problem. Stool is colored in large part by the bile, and when it’s lacking in color (think anemia of the stool) it could be because all your bile salts are bound up in stones.
Red stool 🍅🩸
If your p**p is red, think back to what you’ve eaten in the last day or so. Tomatoes? Beets? These foods can give a red hue and/or show up undigested in the stool. Do you see fresh blood in the bowl or on tp? That could be hemorrhoids, or a sign of irritation from slow or fast motility, or a sign of fissures or fistula. Fresh blood comes from the very lower bowel- anus/rectum
Black stool ◼️🏴
Stool can go black when you take iron supplements or activated charcoal. Also, unlike bright red blood, stools that are black can be a sign of blood that comes@from higher up in the GI tract. Especially if the stool has the consistency of coffee grounds. This warrants being checked out by your doctor.
Stool with a yellow halo 👼
If your p**p seeps color out into the toilet water - yellow, greenish, orange-ish or brownish - it can be a sign of bile dumping. The reverse of the pale stool scenario from above. This would signify an excess of bile salts/acids in the stool, particularly if you have fast motility too. If this happens regularly, it’s definitely worth looking into bile acid malabsorption.
Green stool ☘️🌿
Most often green stool reflects high intake of greens, spirulina, chlorella or greens powder.
This is a pic of the Montmorency tree in our front yard, covered in white blooms, with yellow & red tulips, daffodils & purple & white wild violets in the background. The light is a little trippy. I love Spring.

Vote.
Also! This is the first bloom off the camellia hedge. This hedge has been going for ten plus years now, through ice damage and black fungus attacks & more. It persists.
Also!!! Dysbiosis Detector - my signature stool analysis & protocol service - is open now til Friday 11.11. All the salient deets are at the link in my profile 💩

If you have digestive distress and it’s been slow going to improve or resolve your symptoms & you just want to feel better in your guts, DD answers the following questions for you:
- Do you have enough beneficial, healthy bacteria? These not only participate in moment to moment digestive & immune & neurological function, but also crowd out & kill bad guys & not-so-good guys.
- Do you have H. Pylori? 50% of the world does, to varying consequence. DD also checks for virulence factors of H. pylori.
- Do you have parasites, pathogens, protozoa or worms? Even small amounts can create symptoms.
- Do you have presence/overgrowth/infection of opportunistic microbes? Opportunists capitalize where there is dysfunction or deficiency, and can create a broad array of symptoms.
- Do you have yeast or fungus? So many folks think they do, but I’ve found it in 20% or less of tests. Speaks to the power of the Internet, but that’s another post…
- Can you digest & absorb fats well?
- What’s your enzyme output of your pancreas, whether you take enzyme supplements or not?
- Is your immune system balanced, overstimulated or exhausted?
- Do you have gluten sensitivity?
- Do you have inflammation in your gut?
…and more are answered by this extremely comprehensive service.
Once you know the *answers*, the path forward becomes 💎 clear. Everyone, every situation has different answers, and thus a different approach forward.
After tonight, I’m not sure if I’ll offer DD again. Y’all seem to be v interested in a SIBO Detector in the future? (Lmk).

Enrollment for Dysbiosis Detector is open until Wednesday! 🚽

Dysbiosis Detector is my signature stool analysis service for those looking to take a deeper look into their microbiome in order to unlock stubborn symptoms that aren’t improving.
I send you a stool test, you collect your sample & send it off to the lab.
You complete a symptom questionnaire & health history form for me. Based on your results and your answers, I construct a customized protocol for your next steps moving forward.
Dysbiosis - an imbalanced microbiome - can occur in a number of ways
👾Too few good guys
👾Too many opportunists & frenemies
👾Frank infection with pathogens/parasites
👾Translocation
Dysbiosis Detector analyzes the healthy & not so healthy microbes in your gut, including the good guys, the opportunists, H. Pylori, pathogens, parasites, worms, protozoa & yeast/fungi.
It also checks markers of digestion that relate to fat digestion & enzyme output. It looks at immune markers, markers of inflammation, checks for gluten sensitivity and looks for antibiotic resistance within the microbiome.
It gives a ton of data at once, giving us a comprehensive look at your microbiome.
This allows a clear & decisive path forward - when we know what we are working with. Thus Dysbiosis Detector is great for folks dealing with:
💩IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)
💩IBD (inflammatory bowel disorders)
💩Colitis
💩Chronic indigestion
💩Extreme gas & bloating
💩Chronic diarrhea
💩Chronic constipation
💩Ulcer/gastritis that will not heal
💩Gastroparesis (slow transit increases overgrowth potential)
Dysbiosis underpins many chronic digestive diagnoses, but not all digestive health professionals know how to deal with it beyond taking antibiotics for frank infection.
There’s soooo much more to it than that, loves. Check out more in depth info at the link jillianteta] & my highlighted Story called DysbiosisDetect.

One of the best things you can do to improve your health is to have a bowel movement every day. There are ramifications for physical comfort, detoxification, hormonal balance & more.
I loved this interview with Samantha, the holistic wellness foodie ;)
Podcast Episode 70: The Importance of Pooping, Optimizing Digestion, and the Gut and Hormone Connection - Holistic Wellness We’re chatting about digestive health. And yes, nature plays a really huge role in that. Learn more about that, and the connection between getting outside, being in nature, and even gardening, and how this can all impact your microbiome. I interviewed Jillian Teta. She is a naturopathic physician,...
Over time, I’ve learned that most people struggling with digestive distress have some type of sensitivity or reaction to a food they’re eating. This can be an inherent sensitivity, and can also be a consequence of conditions in the gut (dysbiosis, increases intestinal
Permeability, etc).
It’s why it’s important to challenge foods after a period of elimination & gut healing. It can help you infer where your body is at, right now.
