Full transformation 🤭✨

You guyssss… I have SO much respect for colorists. 😂 If you didn’t already know, I mainly cut hair. 🙈

But after attending CURLS IN REAL LIFE , I left feeling so inspired to create again. Coloring hair truly is an art, and I had SO much fun creating this transformation. From the color to the cut and bringing the entire look together… I loved every part of it. 🥹🤎

And before you ask 😂 no, I still don’t think I’m ready to start taking color clients at this time. BUT I would love to take models every now and then when I’m feeling inspired and want to create.

So grateful to my beautiful model for trusting me with the vision.

Your flat iron does NOT need to be at 450° to get your hair straight 😭

One thing I always ask my clients who occasionally straighten their curls is: what temperature is your flat iron set to?

For fine hair especially, turning that heat all the way up can be a quick way to compromise your curl pattern. In this case, we’re already seeing signs of heat damage, especially around the front of the hair.

And think about it… the front is usually the area we touch up the MOST. We want those pieces around our face extra smooth, so we keep going over them again…and again…and again.

That repeated heat adds up.

For finer, more heat-sensitive curls, I recommend starting LOW. Around 300°F or below can often be plenty, and you can adjust only if your hair truly needs it.

✨ Lower your temperature
✨ Always use a heat protectant
✨ Limit how many passes you make
✨ Avoid repeatedly touching up the same sections

Remember: more heat doesn’t always mean straighter hair. It can just mean more damage.

And unfortunately, it really can take just one high-heat styling session to permanently alter parts of your curl pattern.

Protect those curls, even when you want to wear them straight. 🥹💕

Air drying vs. diffusing 💨

Something I always remind my clients: when we say we’re “air drying,” we’re usually not sitting completely still until our hair is 100% dry.

We’re walking around, getting dressed, touching our hair, going outside…etc. All of that movement while the hair is still wet can disturb the curl pattern and contribute to more frizz.

Diffusing gives us a little more control over the drying process and helps set the curls faster.

And just to clarify, when I kept saying “the diffuser” I was mainly referring to the blow dryer itself, not just the diffuser attachment.😅

👀 When choosing a blow dryer for your curls, two things I really recommend looking for:

🌬️Adjustable airflow — so you can keep the air gentle and avoid blowing the curls around.

♨️Adjustable heat settings — so you have control over how much heat you’re using instead of relying on one temperature.

The diffuser attachment matters, but having control over your heat + airflow is a BIG part of getting a good result.

More control = less disruption while your curls are setting. ✨
