Salon nails are real-world nails. They’re built on natural nails, shaped around unique growth patterns, and designed to last through daily life. They’re beautiful, durable, and wearable because they’re made for living hands, not photo shoots.
Most nails you see on Pinterest and Instagram are often show nails: built on plastic tips, perfected over hours, and polished again through photo editing. They are incredible artistry but they are not salon nails.
The pressure for salon tech to do this work is immense and unfair on both the client and the tech. People cannot expect an average nail tech to sit at her desk for 4 hours for $100 to do these nails. Nobody can live on so little money.
Clients deserve to know the difference. If you want nails crafted for a photo, seek out an artist and pay artist pricing. If you want nails that carry you through real life, respect salon work for what it is: skilled, functional, professional craft.

Even if you use clear gel, these designs still can’t cure completely. The problem isn’t the color, it’s the depth of the gel. Once it exceeds the lamp’s safe curing range, light can’t reach all the way through.
The surface may look cured, but deep inside it can be only 50–70% polymerized. That means unreacted monomers remain, which continue to increase the risk of skin reactions during wear.
To safely create 3D effects, the gel must be applied in thin, fully cured layers, never in sculpted this thick in one go.

We should be focusing on working clean, not fixing mistakes after the fact. There should always be a tiny, intentional gap around the cuticle and sidewalls, that’s control, that’s skill, that’s professionalism. However, brands keep teaching techs to work right up to the skin and then “just clean it up with a bit after.” They intentionally make nail sound easy and just clean it up afterwards. That’s not technique exposure that’s covered up with marketing BS disguised as education. They make you feel like perfection means it’s okay to flood every corner of the nail, when in reality, precision means knowing where to stop.
Stop normalizing cleanup drills. Start teaching clean application.
