Ten years in, and this space has grown up with us.

It’s changed a lot over time. Different layouts, different energy, new ideas layered in. But it’s always been shaped by the people in it. Our team, our guests, the conversations, the learning, all of it leaves a mark.

What started as a small vision has slowly turned into something more intentional. A space that feels lived in, a little softer around the edges, and more aligned with what we care about. Education, sustainability, and doing good work without overcomplicating it.

Grateful for how far it’s come, and for everyone who’s been part of that evolution.

This shape is all about balance.

Length is preserved, but the weight is redistributed so it moves with ease. Soft layering through the mid-lengths, density maintained at the perimeter, and a fringe that frames without feeling heavy. Built to work with natural texture, not override it.

Considered, wearable, and meant to last beyond the first wash.

When we lost Sterling it changed everything. But it also made us realize a salon dog was big part of our culture.

Edison joined us at the end of 2024 at just 4 months old and ready to offer all the cuddles and support through our grief. He is on his way to being certified as a therapy dog but has countless hours, particularly when someone is being blow dried, of soothing lap time.

He’s a Maltese- Yorkie mix just like Sterling but literally half his size with twice the energy. Whether playing fetch with waiting guests or sleeping in laps, he’s a wonderful addition to æffect hair and our official Guest Experience Specialist.

Everything we do is rooted in helping guests better understand their hair so they can recreate styles at home, work with their natural texture, and make thoughtful choices about the products and techniques that support it.

Our team is deeply committed to continued education behind the chair, allowing us to refine our craft and better meet the evolving needs of our guests. That same commitment extends beyond the salon through the classes and learning opportunities we host for the stylist community, creating space for shared knowledge and collective growth.

Education informs our work. Sustainability shapes our approach. Both are essential to the culture we’ve intentionally built at æffect hair.

As a small business and we will remain open today. We do not support the actions of this administration, and its use of ICE, especially as the children of immigrants.
In support and solidarity, all credit card sales will be run at a later date to ensure we have an impact. Additionally we’ve donated to .center to support and help in legal defense and strategic litigation for immigrant children and adults facing detention and deportation. And any retail sales done today in salon or online will go towards an additional donation.

A well-executed pixie isn’t about taking hair off—it’s about deciding where not to. This cut uses intentional weight placement and minimal texturizing to enhance natural movement and head shape.
