I wasn’t going to post this. I mean, it’s #3. And I struggled with yet another one. But then a friend messaged me and said, “I made my derm appt for a skin check! Thank you for the reminder!”

So here’s your reminder.

September 9th, 2026 I went in for my yearly skin check. He found a spot in front of my ear. Asked if I noticed it. I had. It had felt rough and wasn’t going away. He did a biopsy and sure enough. Basal Cell Carcinoma. Skin cancer. Again. Number three.

We scheduled MOH’s surgery.

What is MOH’s? This is a procedure for skin cancer removal on the face. They numb the area, cut, cauterize, cover and you wait while they test it. If the margins aren’t clear, they numb again, cut more, cauterize, cover and test. This is done until they are certain they got it all. I was lucky this time. Only one cut. (Skin cancer number two took 3 cuts.)

This isn’t what smart Laura is doing now. This is what stupid Laura did in her teens and twenties (tanning bed) mixed with a dash of not so great genetics (both my parents have had melanoma).

Here’s some statistics for you:
If you have ONE parent that had melanoma, you’re a 1 in 10.

I’m a 1 in 5.

Not great, right?

But here’s the thing, and I hope you’ve stuck with me so far…

It. Is. Treatable. When. You. Are. Proactive.

My derm told me, come see me once a year and you won’t die from Melanoma. So far, I’ve only had Basal. But once a year? Done. ✅ I’m happy to do that.

It’s a quick appointment. Just go.
