More from my I-tip hair extensions journey at . To reiterate, I purchased my hair from and used the hair texture “Afro Straight” in 18in and 20 inch to match my hair in its blown-out state. For this brand, you are expected to use 150-200 pieces, for my hair, roughly 175 pcs were used. This service is NOT meant to be a protective style. It is simply a way to add length and/or fullness to your hair in comparison to a weave like a sew-in. In my opinion it is was fun to try. My hair is natural AND thick, so I was able to experience added length with the I-tips. I had to go into the salon every 4 weeks for a wash, blow, and silk press. Each visit was also an opportunity to replace any pieces that had fallen out (overall I had a total of 😎 and add additional pcs if needed. Although I started out with 18 and 20 in, we did end up cutting it down and adding simple layers so it could blend better with my hair. I loved the modest length so much better cuz it looked like the hair growing out of my scalp! Some cons were it still required heat maintenance (again it’s not a protective style), there were limitations on how much oil I was able to put on my scalp (to prevent the hair from getting oily and looking flat), there are limitations on how you style your hair (if you want to do a middle part, side part, or half up/half down, you have to make sure you let your stylist know so they can place the hair pcs accordingly). Lastly, once it got to my 3-month mark, my new growth was thick, so it was harder to disguise since the rest of my hair was straight and flatter. Overall, I did enjoy trying this service. It has been around for MANY years but has become popular lately especially in the black community. If you’re interested or curious, I say check it out. But keep in mind, it does require maintenance.
