These lips lacked an overall shape and border, which we were able to define to create a more aesthetic look. We were also able to achieve some facial balancing by creating more symmetry within the lips.

This client had 2 other sessions with other artists that didn’t go as planned. 😱
Story time ⬇️

•My client had her first session with an artist who didn’t fully understand what the client wanted, and was inexperienced with lip neutralization clients, and working with my melanin rich fitzpatrick scale 4-6 babes.
The original artist played it safe (smart!) and gave this client an intense neutralization lightening and brightening the lips, unfortunately that’s not what this client wanted. She didn’t want her lips lighter she wanted them DARKER, which can be a scary thing for a lip blush artist to hear with a neutralization client because there’s so much unknown and rules that need to be followed to ensure everything heals properly. The client was left with a super high impact neutralization (likely done with tattoo ink to enhance the power of the neutralization.) but it left the clients lips bright orange even after healing.

•Client was unhappy and felt uncomfortable going back to her initial artist, and found a second artist. That second artist beautifully and carefully evened out the orange tones, leaving the client with a lighter pink lip, (and it was beautifully done.) but still not what the client wanted initially, but she was much happier with her final results as they were no longer orange, and at least an evened out tone. But remember the client wanted DARKER LIPS to enhance her melanin, not neutralize it.

•A few years go by and some of that color fades, and client is now applying a brown liner everyday to try and enhance and restore her original lip color and shape. That’s when one of my current clients had came into her office, and she saw their lips and loved them. (Shout out to this mystery client!) she went through my work and saw I was a lip specialist, and the massive amount of experience I had with neutralizations and my comfort level and expertise with melanin rich skin/lips.
She gave me a task I normally would not preform, and honestly really made me think of how we can achieve this restoration SAFELY for her.
