The secret to a flawless, luxury spray tan doesn't start in the tent—it starts 48 hours before your appointment. Prepping your skin correctly is the difference between a golden, lasting glow and a brassy, uneven fade. From balancing your skin's pH against Utah's hard water to layering the perfect hydration, this is your ultimate pre-tan ritual. Swipe through to see exactly how to prep your canvas for a perfect result at Be Bold the Salon.
Mani & Pedis First Get pampered before your tan. The luxurious lotions, cuticle oils, and scrubs from your nail appointment create an invisible barrier on your skin that prevents the tanning solution from absorbing and developing properly.
Hair Wash Day Wash your hair before you wash your body. Shampoos and conditioners leave a hidden film running down your back and shoulders that will literally stop the tan in its tracks, leaving you with streaks and light patches.
TanningPrep
Clean Canvas Alkaline bar soaps mixed with Utah's hard water throw off your skin’s pH—which is the number one culprit behind a brassy, orange tan. Stick to a gentle, pH-balancing body wash and strictly avoid oil-based scrubs that leave a heavy residue.
The Smooth Operator Hair removal is physical exfoliation. Waxing opens your pores (which can trap solution), and the moisture strips on your razor leave a waxy barrier behind that repels DHA. Get this done early, and wait 24 hours after your tan has fully developed before shaving again with a brand-new razor.
The Hydration Hit Our 10% humidity means your skin is constantly thirsty. If your skin is dry, it will "drink" the tanning solution unevenly. Plump your cells 48 hours prior with the ultimate hydration layering: apply your desert dew dry oil right out of the shower while your skin is damp, and follow up with your sonoran silk hydratin

Where has your tan taken you?
Class is in session! But the behind-the-scenes work still has to be done. Watch me formulate a brand new, secret product for the salon while we diagnose our next student: Cho Chang. 👀🧪
Cho maps to a gorgeous Fitz 3 to 4 and an LES 4. Her skin handles DHA beautifully, and her olive-green veins and love for gold jewelry and ivory fabrics tell us she has incredibly strong, Golden-Warm (yellow) undertones.
Here is where standard color theory saves the day. Violet sits directly across from Yellow on the color wheel. If we want to neutralize that heavy yellow and stop the tan from pulling brassy, Violet is our primary corrector. Here is exactly how we formulate for her canvas. 👇
🧪 The Mixology:
1-Solution: Violet Base
Custom Mix: 60% Violet + 40% Brown
⚖️ The Strength: 14% DHA
⏳ The Process: A strict 3.5-hour rapid rinse
Can you guess what secret product I’m working on in the video? Drop your guesses in the comments, and make sure to hit follow for Day 4! 🚂📚
