Tonsillectomy...

Did you know? Tonsillectomy, although one of the most common surgical procedures performed on children, remains controversial. One reason is that most children do not meet the criteria for the procedure—and for most patients who undergo tonsillectomy, long-term outcomes are not improved.

The tonsils are not simply “extra” tissue. The immune cells within the tonsils help protect the body against bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens, making them an important part of the immune system.

My first article on this topic was published in 2016, and research continues to support the concerns I raised then. Studies have linked tonsillectomy with increased risks of esophageal, throat, tongue, and breast cancers, as well as myocardial infarction.

Perhaps it’s time to add tonsillectomy to the long—and growing—list of common medical procedures that deserve a closer look and thoughtful reconsideration.

Many people believe that lack of access to medical care is the reason so many people are unhealthy.

But what if the problem isn’t too little medicine? What if it’s too much?

Sweet Mustard Dressing

One of Pam’s favorites!

People are always asking Pam for ideas for delicious oil-free salad dressings, and this is one of her favorites! It’s creamy, flavorful, and incredibly easy to make. Try it drizzled over a big green salad, roasted vegetables, or even as a dip for fresh veggies.

Ingredients
1 package silken tofu
â…“ cup prepared mustard
â…“ cup maple syrup or agave nectar
1 tablespoon lime juice
½ teaspoon sea salt
ÂĽ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
Directions

Combine all ingredients in a food processor and puree until smooth and creamy.

Makes 2 cups.
