BLONDIES ☀️

Feeling like your beautiful blonde hair is turning yellow this summer?

Here’s one of the most frequent culprits:

⬇️

YOUR SUNSCREEN.

The sunscreen ingredient most commonly blamed for staining blonde, gray, silver, and highlighted hair is AVOBENZONE. (Extension girlies, this goes for you as well!)

When avobenzone comes into contact with hard water minerals (especially iron) or metals such as copper, it can create a rusty orange, pink, or yellow discoloration in light-colored hair. This is especially noticeable in blondes, platinum blondes, and gray hair.

If you’re a blondie and want to minimize staining:

✔️ Choose a mineral sunscreen containing zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide instead of avobenzone.
✔️ Wear a hat when possible.
✔️ Rinse hair after swimming.
✔️ Use a leave-in conditioner or UV-protectant hair product as a barrier.

If your blonde hair has already turned orange, pink, or yellow after sunscreen use, a clarifying treatment or chelating treatment (such as a Malibu treatment) can often remove the discoloration. ☀️👙
