Eden’s Honeybee Apiary

A honeybee’s last-ditch effort in staying warm during Michigan winters: stuffing themselves into cells. Primarily, they will cluster together, and vibrate their bodies to generate/ retain heat. Honeybees do not become dormant like ants do, they rely on honey/ pollen reserves and poplulation to make it through cold winter seasons. Most colony losses occur during winter for many reasons. In this case the queen failed, population declines, and it’s every bee for itself when a cluster won’t suffice.

Commercial honey is processed by being heated beyond 180 degrees to pasteurize it. We don’t! Here’s why:

We currently have 7 hives, and each year they have the potential to be split (doubling the amount of bee hives) every spring!

Aside from that, invasive wild honey bee swarms are captured, and given good homes with abundant care. Save the bees!

It was a great yield this past season! Over 300lbs of honey extracted from our 7 hives! Next year, our hives will double in number, along with the years that follow. Stay tuned and track our growth!

Eden’s Apiary, named after our daughter, is located in the rural farming area of Zeeland, Michigan.
