Last night, Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham and the Waukegan City Council proudly presented a proclamation recognizing April 2026 as Autism Awareness Month in the City of Waukegan to Amanda Diaz of the ZB Autism Family Hub.

This proclamation highlights the importance of awareness, inclusion, and support for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. We are grateful for organizations like the ZB Autism Family Hub for the vital resources, advocacy, and community connections they provide right here in Waukegan.

In partnership with the Waukegan Police Department and The Autism Hero Project, the ZB Autism Family Hub is also helping launch the Blue Envelope Program to support safer, more positive interactions between officers and drivers on the autism spectrum. Throughout April, Waukegan police officers will wear commemorative puzzle-themed patches to promote autism awareness.

Blue Envelopes are available for pickup at the following locations:
• Waukegan City Hall – 100 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, Waukegan, IL
• Waukegan Public Library – 128 N. County St, Waukegan, IL
• ZB Autism Family Hub/Ballet Folkloriko Cultural Center – 32 N. Genesee St, Waukegan, IL
