📌 Ý nghĩa:
Drawing inspiration from the soul-stirring melodies of Ví Giặm Nghệ Tĩnh folk music—a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage—this costume pays tribute to the cultural and natural essence of the region. It blends traditional Vietnamese aesthetics with contemporary design, using ornamentation to tell a visual story of local identity.
The wave patterns at the lower hem of the male costume are inspired by the sea at Cửa Lò Beach, symbolizing the strength and resilience of the male performer. In contrast, the golden flowing stream motif on the female costume, inspired by the Lam River running through the two provinces of Nghệ Tĩnh, represents both the harmony, connection, and deep bond between the regions and the gentleness and elegance of the female performer. The yếm top and waist section of the women’s costume, along with the headpiece of the men’s attire, are delicately accented with lotus motifs—a flower symbolizing Sen Village, the hometown of our great leader Hồ Chí Minh. Familiar images from the daily life of the people of Nghệ Tĩnh, such as Thanh Chương tea leaves and Hà Tĩnh’s Mỹ Nhân flower, are used as decorative motifs on the female headdress and along the hem of the male costume, reflecting majestic natural beauty of Nghệ Tĩnh. Finally, the highlight of both costumes—the poetic panel at the front of the female skirt and the poetic band on the collar of the male attire—symbolizes the long-standing literary tradition of Nghệ Tĩnh, associated with renowned poets such as Nguyễn Du, Hoàng Trung Thông, etc as well as the admirable spirit of learning deeply rooted in the people of this region.
The costume is far more than a stage outfit, it is a meaningful cultural symbol that harmonizes nature, tradition, and intellectual heritage into a single, graceful expression of identity.
