I like all things unusual and different - not the types of things one finds in
regular shops. Because I could never find exactly what I liked I started making earrings for myself after receiving a handmade pair as a gift. (Of course there's much more to this story than just that)...

The stick thin girls who never smile in pics, half our age, supposedly representing products for us in magazines - I find that quite inappropriate, and in fact rebel against it. It doesn't matter how much or little make-up you're wearing, if your shoes are high or flat, or your hair is somewhat unusual - I have great appreciation when someone looks amazing to herself, even if, and maybe specially when it courts looks, attention and sometimes critisism or soft whispers. What can I say. When you are exactly who you are, with no urge to be like anybody else, and no need to adapt to fit in with people you like - or in new situations where you're the new person nobody knows, the outsider even - entering a conversation where evrybody knows everybody - except you - one of two things happens. You find rapport and you gel and converse and get on with everyone and it feels incredible because one person made eye contact and included you - you connected. Or - from the start you were excluded. And right there you still know you don't fit in because you definitely don't want to be like those people. It's actually mind blowing to realize that. A big shift happens in your life. Inside your "self".
Magically you belong everywhere. And there's a massive difference between fitting in and belonging. I belong everywhere but I rarely fit in. I don't blend into everybody else. And I don't want to. I'm happy to be the odd one out (in looks, style, personality, views, visions, energy, vibration, beliefs).
I am okay with who I am.
I choose me. I would rather be by myself, as I am. Day after day. Night after night. Weekend after weekend. Sunday after Sunday. Party after party after event after event. I don't like the feeling of knowing I don't like being in certain company and I want to leave. Because I can see the desperation of those present to fit in and be the man. And I get it. It's probably more normal to be like that, than to reject it (as i do). And at the same time I like the feeling because it means I know who I am and I refuse to go there. It's not necessary to talk because I know what I know. And there's plenty i don't know. And as easily, the ability to boldly put it out there and say - I can't talk about that because I don't have enough knowledge about it, I've never been there, I've never heard of what you're talking about.
I find myself withdrawing and becoming quiet. And comfortable in the places I most am "out" and where I fit in least. In essence I am introverted. Imagine that. My extroversion is taught behavior. I have learned how and can take over the entire room if I need to. If I choose to.
I would rather be by myself - so I can be myself.
I would never choose to be anybody else. I would rather choose me. And I do.
It can be a very lonely path and sometimes it is. But it is a very good path to choose.
I choose me. It's a win win.
A friend told me, at one of the lowest points in my life, when I questioned if I should have the courage to be seen, after a devastating heart break, wondering how I would be able to put myself out there again one day... "Moenie die wonder van jouself van enigiemand verneem nie."
That was a turning point. No matter how many times I was rejected, left, walked away from, heart broken, laughed or sneered at... by whomever - it doesn't matter. Because it doesn't lessen me. It enhances me. It clears the wrong things from having space in my life that is meant for the right.
And there a lot of right things when you decide to be who you are. Embrace yourself because you are you. How perfect.
