Today, 1 year ago I stood in the mirror; took a deep breath and started cutting chunks of hair. I was honestly so shocked by what I was doing and very disappointed with how disastrous my hair was afterward. I initially cut my hair to help my daughter understand where she came from because at 3 years old she was going through an identity crisis due to her having curly hair and everyone else having straight hair. Little did I know I was experiencing an identity crisis my whole life, which is why it was so easy for me to identify the signs in her. I have grown so much this year, I don't laugh the same, I don't talk the same, I don't dress the SAME, I don't smile the same, I AM NOT THE SAME!

In a year my hair grew longer than what it was when I cut it. And believe me this year was challenging. There were tears because my hair just wasn't doing the things. But I'm not willing to go back to my identity crisis state of mind. I've struggled with the most split ends, protein overload as well as hair webbing all which I'll share details about on another occasion. I've had three cuts in this year and though I sometimes feel like my hair hadn't grown an inch, it has grown and it is growing.

My name is Lauren Daniels and I am finally me. Happy curlyversary to me 🎊🎉

It's been a while since I last posted. Though I've lost track of alot of things and had to keep up with many changes, I stayed true to my natural journey. Though I haven't been as strict and haven't stuck to my routine at all, I'm just grateful that I haven't reverted to chemicals or heat.

First pic: this morning, right after removing three week old braids, oiling my scalp, doing a little trim (second cut since the last time I posted with the short box braids) and then detangling my hair

Look at how big she's gotten 😍 she's as soft as a mouse. But fierce like a lion ðŸĶ

Second picture: after a wash and deep condition I applied leave in whilst on the shower plopped for 15mins with a cotton t-shirt. Massaged fusion oil into my scalp and some olive oil into the strands no raking or combing just basically scrunching it all in. Then I used a toothbrush with edge gel to style the front (no curl cream on my hair at all and no gel on the rest of my hair.)

Came out of the bathroom and skye said "mommy! Your hair looks cute" and today I'm living for that moment

Reality kicked in, I need another chop. And it's about 2-3cm that must go... I know that seems like a little but with almost no hair at all I've been finding it hard to part with my damaged hair 😅... So I opted for protective styling for now. I've blogged about how I care for my braids and will be doing the same this time round. However, my porosity has changed to low and I've become sensitive to protein (the new growth) so I'll do plain water spritz instead of rice water. It's been 7 months since my big chop, and I decided to do this blow out thing today. ðŸ˜ģI'm shook, is this really my hair? Has it really grown so much? Am I even awake right now.

After 6 months, i attempted a high puff. Believe me i couldn't achieve this by watching and following YouTube videos. But it's my rendition of the puff and I loved it âĪïļ
