Did you know that the Aloe ferox plant is native to South Africa?

It is known for its large, spiky leaves and its medicinal properties. In this video from Babylonstoren, you'll see a Aloe ferox plant with the most beautiful yellow candelabra flowers instead of its usual orange candelabra flowers

Into the Veld: Aloe ferox and Aloe marlothii 🌱 Both the Aloe ferox (Cape aloe) and Aloe marlothii (mountain aloe or bergaalwyn) share similar characteristics as single stem plants that keep their old leaves on their base to protect them against fire. Both species flower from May to late August, and in certain areas until September or August if it is cooler. The Aloe ferox here is special because of its yellow flowers where it will usually have bright orange or dark red flowers. Its flowers grow in a beautiful candelabra with between 4 and 8 flower spikes growing straight up. Its leaves are a dull green to greyish blue. The Aloe marlothii’s flowers also range from bright orange to bright red, but the candelabra of flower spikes or inflorescence rather grow horizontally which makes it easy to identify. Its leaves are usually greener but can also display as blue-green. Both plants are easy to grow from seed. Use a good drainage mediums (sandy mix), keeping them dry and only watering when needed.
