The story behind Earthly

Depending on your point of view our founder, Dan van Zyl, has lived a relatively privileged life compared to the majority of South Africans. This blue eyed boy was born in the Western Cape, matriculated in 2012 after which he finished his Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Stellenbosch.

He was told you should go to school, get good marks, study a degree, get a job, buy a house and get married. This recipe may work for so many people but for him something just didn't seem quite right and he decided to waiver from this recipe after University.

He wanted to make a difference, but how do you make a difference in your community or make this world a better place? The answer he found was quite simple, you do it by not talking about it but to start doing something about it. And so he did...

He founded Earthly in 2019 out of his garage and hasn't looked back since. Toothpaste Bits weren't his idea and he doesn't pretend to have invented this seemingly brilliant solution to the billions of toothpaste tubes filling up our landfills and oceans each year.
