I’ve noticed a conversation that comes up quite often in the beauty industry: that responding to clients too quickly can make you seem desperate, too available, or as though you don’t have enough work.

And honestly, I’ve never really understood that.

In my experience, responsiveness has never been an indication of how busy I am. It’s simply part of how I choose to run my business.

I work to structure my day so that makeup and admin are both part of my job. If I’m available to respond, I will. If I’m working, I’ll respond when I can.

Over time, I’ve learned that good communication isn’t about trying to appear busy. It’s about being clear, consistent and professional with the people who are trusting you with their experience.

So these are simply five things I’ve learned about communication through running my business — not rules, just practices that have worked for me.
