Do the people around us matter?

People around us can motivate us to do better, but if they discourage us, they can bring us down.

We may not realize the importance of the right kind of people until we need them or decide to pursue something in life. Many people envy others and try to plant doubts in our minds, but there are some who are so genuine that they feel joy in seeing you dream and succeed.

Have a few true people in life, but those who are truly connected with you. You only need those people who genuinely support, encourage, and make you believe that you can achieve anything.

People are usually kinder when they actually feel good within themselves. So when someone isn't kind to you, it typically has very little to do with you at all. ⬇️

Unkindness is rarely random. Someone secure in their own mind doesn't need to make other people feel small to feel okay. That behavior comes from somewhere unresolved in them, their own pain, their own insecurity, their own unmet needs, spilling out sideways onto whoever happens to be nearby. You just happened to be standing there when it came out.

Your mind will want to make it personal, to search for what you did wrong, to find the version of you that caused this. Most of the time there isn't one. Their treatment of you says more about the state of their own mind than it ever does about your worth.

That doesn't mean you have to stay close enough to keep absorbing it, though. You can understand where someone's unkindness comes from and still choose not to be near it.

Wish them well, from a distance. Keep this close to heart: understanding doesn't require proximity.

This is the life I hope to live someday.

Financial freedom: Enough to move at my own pace. Enough to take the long way home. Enough to sit still without feeling chased by the clock.

People who feel like home: A small circle. Familiar voices. The kind of company that lets silence feel comfortable.

Slow mornings over coffee: Light coming through the window. Worship songs playing softly in the background. The kind of morning that feels gentle.

A small garden: Something out back. A place where mornings begin with dirt on my hands. A place where growth takes its time and follows its own season.

Travel: Long drives. Quiet towns. Roads that stretch out and teach me things I didn't know I needed yet.

Purpose Driven Life: Meaningful work. Enough to serve, teach, and give. Success measured not just by what I have, but by what I leave behind.
