$The Swartberg Pass on R328 runs over the Swartberg Mountains, built by Thomas Bain. Much of the Swartberg forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. We take this route to or from Prince Albert, a small town in the Little Karoo, Western Cape. You do not need a 4X4 to drive here, the first time we went on this route we drove @audisouthafrica Q5, and we have gone back three more times with a @toyota_sa Fortuner. A 4X4 certainly makes it easier to navigate the pass :) but not necessary. Depending on the side you are approaching Prince Albert, You will pass the Meiringspoort Waterfall if driving from Gqeberha. Spend an hour or so here, it is absolutely breathtaking. Spend two nights in @princealbertwc . Then leave Prince Albert via the Swartberg Pass and stop at the Cango Caves in Oudtshoorn and spend a few hours here. This will elevate your road trip. While in Prince Albert make sure you visit @gaysguernseydairy I have never tasted better drinking yoghurt in my life. If you know anything about lamb, you don’t know enough until you have tasted lamb from the Karoo Slaghuis in Prince Albert. And lastly, you have probably seen the Prince Albert Olive oil in those yellow cans 😉 one of the best in South Africa. Prince Albert has some of the most beautiful cottages and very affordable. The town has beautiful art galleries, a well kept/ run museum, stunning hotels and restaurants. Most of the food is locally sourced, which makes it all the more delicious as it is fresh.
