Why you should leave the box dye alone.

First off everyone always hears from their hairdresser that box dye is bad but a lot of people don't listen because they don't understand. So let me tell you why we tell you to not use box dye. It might be cheaper in the beginning but read on to find out why professional color might actually be cheaper😌😉

1. Box dyes contains a lot of chemicals that professional color does not. Chemicals that are bad for your hair and can leave your hair feeling dry and damaged. It also contains a chemical called Titanium Dioxide which can cause a chemical reaction when professional color is applied which can melt your hair.

2.They're progressive dyes. Which means after every application the color layers ontop op each other which creates color build up. This might result in much darker tresses than expected, mismatched roots, and your follicles being exposed to excessive impurities.

3. Let's say your hair is now a black or dark brown color and you decide it's too dark now and want to go lighter. The process of going lighter might take several sessions as it has to go through stages of lightening and can't happen over night. (If the box dye can lift) some box dyes are so potent that when you try to lift it with bleach the color doesn't lift. But in circumstances where it does lift you have to break through those undertones to get to that beautiful blonde. You have to be red then orange then yellow and then blonde. So be prepared for those colors first before you reach your end result.

4. Let's talk cost. Lets say you have beautiful long thick hair and to cover all that hair from root to ends you have to buy 2 or 3 boxes. Average cost of box dye is around R100 to R200 per box, for one session might be R200 to R400 depending off course how many boxes you buy. 2 weeks later your roots have grown out and you need to touch up those roots but realize the mid-lengths and ends have spots that are not covered so you buy 3 more boxes. By the end of the month you have spent between R400 and R600 on your hair. When you get your hair professionally colored and do a full color the first time you pay R950 for example (long hair) professional color last longer. You end up only needing to dye your roots 4 - 6 weeks later which then costs you R550. By the end of the day you get your hair colored and there are no spots it is covered beautifully all over. You don't have to dye your hair as much, and you get a blow out or styling with it. No color on your skin and a lovely massage added😉 you get to relax and not have to worry about staining your shower black or red.

5. Most professional colors (like Keune) has lower chemical dosage than box dyes. It has added oils and nutrients to make your hair feel healthy and also treat the hair follicles and cuticles while coloring your hair.

It was quite difficult to let go of my business and all you wonderful people, I have decided to give 2024 a chance and see what the new year brings.
