Everything you need to know about natural hair

04/06/2021

Your hair will not grow overnight, it will not grow in 2 weeks. Stop rushing the process of hair growth. We are all different, we have different genes. We are all different and our hair is different.

Take care of your hair properly, use the products that your hair loves and most importantly be consistent in your routine of taking care of your hair.

Also eat well because what we eat also plays a huge role in the outcome of our hair.

If you are obsessed with growth then you will not see your hair grow because you're too obsessed about it.

Just chill, growth takes time especially because our hair shrinks alot so it's hard to see if it's growing or not.

Don't rush the process, just enjoy your natural hair journey and embrace your crown 👑 if you stress alot that will most definitely show in your grown. Also don't compare your hair with other people's hair, we different. Less is more sometimes. People tend to do alot, they want to try everything. Chill babe chill 💖🤗

Patience, consistency and good products 👑

Normal porosity

Well I guess this is the best porosity because it absorbs products the way it should, it keeps moisture perfectly. With normal porosity hair you can get away with any product be it a light, medium or thick product it will absorb it and it will keep the moisture. This is the perfect porosity no stress

High porosity hair

Having high porosity hair means that your hair cuticles are open and they are ready to receive any product you put in. High porosity hair absorbs products quickly products don't even take long to pe*****te the hair strands and shaft. As much as it absorbs quickly it also looses moisture quickly unlike low porosity hair.

That's why most people with high porosity hair moisturise their hair more often than other porosities because it looses moisture quickly.

High porosity hair loves thick products. Thick oils, butter's and leave in conditioner

Let's talk about hair porosity.

Having low porosity means that your hair cuticles are closed, hence products take time to pe*****te your hair. The best thing to do when you have low porosity hair, you have to use light products that will quickly pe*****te the hair shaft and strands. That's why it's always recommend to use light oils, leave in's and butters. When spritzing your hair with water it's always best to use warm water because low porosity and heat are friends. Also add heat while deep conditioning. A steamer or hooded dryer works best, but if you don't have these like me then you can use a plastic bag and a doek and let your body heat to the job. Low porosity hair is also not a fan of protein, so you can do a protein treatment once a month or once every two months or when you feel like your hair needs a protein boost.

If you low porosity and you really want to use a thick oil then dilute it with light oils so that it can get into your hair strands and not sit on top of your hair.

Hey Queens 💖👑

Some people are allergic to coconut oil, their hair reacts when they use any product with coconut oil. The worst part is almost all of the products that we buy contain a bit of coconut oil. My advice to those people is to lean more towards raw ingredients like raw Shea butter, Raw oils mix your own oils instead of buying a bottle of hair growth oil maybe. Use black soap or Apple cider vinegar in the place of store bought shampoos, do your own DIY hair mask instead of buying a store bought deep conditioner.

But there are store bought products that don't have coconut oil you just have to dig deeper into finding them, make sure you read each and every product that you buy.

Guy's it's winter, it's cold and windy. Please make sure your hair is hidden, do protective style.

Those wash day twists and braids they are considered as protective style because your hair is protected. Do plaits, conrows, braids whatever you want to do but make sure your hair is protected. Undo your hair when it's wash day and back to protective styling again.

Make sure you moisturise your hair because during this season our hair needs more moisture.

Yes I know sometimes it's nice touching your hair, wearing it out, doing different styles. But now it's time to tuk it away 😅.

Take turns between long term protective style and short term protective style so that you don't overwhelm your hair.

Some people do protective style and then they don't moisturise their hair they neglect it, don't be that person because when you take off the protective style your hair must be well moisturized to avoid breakage. Dryness leads to breakage, so moisturise properly.

And please don't confuse shedding with breakage. Our hair sheds daily and you can tell if it's breakage or shedding, but that's another topic for another day.

Shedding vs Breakage. I will also talk about Shrinkage and how we should embrace it.

I also decided to give my hair a dust ( mini trim) I am obsessed with dusting or trimming my ends. I really don't like ends that are hanging, looks untidy expecially when you doing twists

Wash day braids 😅

So I normally leave my hair like this till I decide what I will do with it. I really don't like styling my hair everyday it's too much for my hair 😅 I prefer long term protective styles expecially during the cold season.

I used these products.

In the native child bottle I have 70% of the African pride hair oil and 30% of the native child oil. I mix the 2 oils together because castor oil alone is too heavy for my hair but it loves it so I dilute it.

I then use my favourite leave in conditioner by far. The Cantu leave in conditioner for men, I had the white one for ladies but my boyfriend said we should exchange and this one has h**p seed oil which is the best for low porosity hair and I love the smell 🤗💖😍.

Then my favourite hair butter so far the afrobotanics butter, Lord this butter is amazing, it melts in the hair, smells amazing and makes my hair soft and coily, guys this butter has something that just makes the coils pop😍.

My hair will take a break for the next 2 weeks till I figure out which long term protective style I will do next.

After rinsing off my deep conditioner I use a t-shirt to dry my wet hair till it's not dripping wet. I then follow up with an oil to seal the moisture restored by the deep conditioner and rinsing water. Then I let my hair air dry. When it's 50% dry I then moisturise my hair using leave in conditioner and butter, then put in braids, I also use a bit of oil for my hairline and a bit for the hair just to coat my hair with oil I also use more butter on my ends after braiding each section.

I leave my hair in those braids till I moisturise or wash or do a protective style. I never play with my hair after washing it, I'm lazy and this thing of manipulation is not my thing 😅

After Pre pooing for 2 hours with flaxseed gel, I continued with my wash day routine I used the afrobotanics moisturizing shampoo and the deep conditioner. I just love these products.

The shampoo leaves my hair feeling soft and moisturized. The deep conditioner makes my coils/curls pop to their full potential and also leaves my hair feeling super soft and moisturized also 🤗😍.

It's wash day. Finally washing my hair, I did a flaxseed gel Pre poo. My curls 🙊 the slip is amazing 😍.

Will let it sit for 2 hours or 3 😅 then continue with the rest of my wash day.

Wish me luck 😅
