Braids. Weaves. Relaxers. Tight ponytails. These are not just style choices; they are clinical risk factors for permanent hair loss.
Traction alopecia starts silently. Little bumps along the hairline. A scalp that feels tender. A hairline that keeps creeping back. By the time most patients come to me, the damage is already done.
This is one of the most common and most preventable conditions I treat, and it is almost entirely invisible in South African public health conversations.
Swipe through every slide. Your hairline depends on it.
Have you or someone you love experienced hairline recession? Drop a comment ; I want to hear from you.
Remember to reach out to your nearest dermatologist for your hairless concerns;

I treat your skin. Your scalp. Your hair. Your nails; and most patients don't know this until it's too late.
Dermatology is the full picture; not just the face staring back at you in the mirror.
I have patients who came to me for acne and left with a traction alopecia diagnosis they never saw coming. I have patients who ignored nail changes for years; changes that were telling me something important long before they noticed anything was wrong.
Your skin is your body's largest organ. Hair and nails are part of the same system. When one is struggling, the others often follow.
I am not a face doctor. I am your dermatologistβ€οΈ

As we close out May, I want to say thank you.
To every patient who sat across from me this month. To everyone who asked the question they had been too afraid to ask. To this community; for showing up and trusting me with your skin.
Now. Before June arrives and the Highveld cold really sets in; three non-negotiables for your winter skincare:
01 β HYDRATION Your skin needs water, not just moisture. Look for hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and aloe vera. These draw water into the skin and keep it there.
02 β MOISTURISATION Seal that hydration in. Ceramides, shea butter, and squalane are your winter allies. They repair your barrier and stop the cold air from stripping it back.
03 β SPF 50. DAILY. Winter sun is still sun. UV rays do not take a season off β and for melanin-rich skin, unprotected exposure means hyperpigmentation that is far harder to treat than it is to prevent.
Hydrate. Moisturise. Protect.
Every single dayπ€π€
Save this for your winter routine. And if your skin needs more than a routine can fix, please reach out to your nearest dermatologist.

Water is your first beauty ritualπ§β¨
Long before serums and moisturisers, there was water; cleansing, restoring, renewing. On Africa Day, we honour the profound link between access to clean water, sanitation, and the dignity of healthy, glowing skin.
When every woman on this continent can wash her face with clean water, that is not just public health; that is beauty justice.
This yearβs Africa Day theme reminds us that sustainable water access is the foundation of Agenda 2063, a thriving, dignified Africa. 63 years of unity, integration and development, and we are still building the Africa our skin, our health, and our future deserves.
Clean water. Pure skin. Dignified livingπ€π

Burns are not all treated the same way; and treating the wrong degree incorrectly can make the outcome significantly worse.
This May, for Burn Awareness Month, know the difference before you need to.
Save this post. It may matter one day.

Most people get burn first aid completely wrong; and it costs them in the long run.
Swipe for what to do, what to stop immediately, and when a burn becomes a medical emergency.
Save this. It might matter one day.

Being a mother is the only job where you're wildly underqualified on day one and somehow still expected to figure it out.
My son has taught me more about patience, resilience, and negotiation than any textbook ever did. He also has excellent skin; so at least one thing is going according to plan.
Happy Mother's Day to every woman doing the work, in the consulting room and at home.

Mole mapping is one of the most important things you can do for your skin; and most people only think about it when something worries them.
Don't wait for that moment.

Birthdays have a way of making you pause and take stock, of how far you've walked. The patients who trusted you with something as personal as their skin and their confidence. Of the late nights, the learning, the quiet moments in the consulting room that remind you exactly why you chose this.
Today I'm not the dermatologist. I'm just a woman who is deeply grateful; for this work, for this community, and for every person who has been part of this journey.
Thank you for the love. It means more than you knowππ°

Workers' Day makes me think about what it actually costs to show up - every day, with care, with your whole self.
To every nurse, every receptionist, every person behind the scenes whose name goes unannounced but whose presence holds everything together; today is for you.
And to my patients who are workers too: your labour has dignity. Rest today if you can.
