Nails by Idalette

Remembering when Dolly used her acrylic nails as percussion in her music 💅🏼🎶

Dolly Parton used the clacking of her acrylic nails as a musical instrument while writing her hit song 9 to 5. She thought it, “kind of sounds like a typewriter.”

The distinct sound made the song’s studio recording, earning the official credit on the album notes, “Nails by Dolly.”

Dolly called her nails “the newest instrument on the market,” and demonstrated her unique way of playing them on TV appearances over the years.

She also skillfully played guitar and banjo in open tunings so she could keep them long.

Dolly made room for everything she loved in her life and she did things in her own way. It’s no wonder she is so beloved and remembered as the icon that she was 💖
