🦷✨ WHAT CAUSES BAD BREATH? ✨

Bad breath, or halitosis, is common — but it can sometimes be a sign that something needs a little more attention.

Some common causes include:
🪥 Poor oral hygiene – plaque and bacteria can build up around your teeth and gums.
👅 Bacteria on the tongue – your tongue can harbour odour-causing bacteria.
🦷 Gum disease – inflammation and infection around the gums can contribute to persistent bad breath.
💧 Dry mouth – reduced saliva means your mouth isn't being naturally cleansed as effectively.
🥘 Certain foods – garlic, onions and some spices can temporarily affect your breath.
🦷 Dental problems – cavities, infections or other oral health concerns can sometimes cause ongoing odour.

✨ The good news? Regular brushing, cleaning between your teeth, tongue cleaning, staying hydrated and routine dental check-ups can all help keep your mouth fresh and healthy.

If your bad breath persists despite good oral hygiene, it's worth having it checked by your dentist. We're here to help! 💙

🦷 DENTAL MYTH #5
❌ MYTH: You only need to visit the dentist when something hurts.
✅ FACT: Many dental problems—including early cavities and gum disease—often develop silently without causing pain. By the time you notice discomfort, treatment may be more extensive than it would have been if the problem had been detected earlier.
Regular dental examinations and professional cleanings help keep your smile healthy and allow us to catch issues before they become painful.
Don't wait for toothache—invest in your smile today!

✨ DENTAL MYTH #4
❌ MYTH: White teeth are always healthy teeth.
✅ FACT: A bright white smile doesn't always mean your teeth are healthy. Tooth colour naturally varies from person to person, and even the whitest teeth can still have cavities, decay, or gum disease.
The healthiest smiles are those that are cared for with regular check-ups, professional cleanings, and good oral hygiene—not just the brightest ones.
A healthy smile is always in style! 😁

DENTAL MYTH #3

MYTH: If your gums bleed, you should stop flossing.

FACT: Bleeding gums are often an early sign of gingivitis, caused by plaque build-up along the gumline. Stopping flossing allows even more plaque to accumulate, making the problem worse. Gentle, consistent flossing—along with professional dental cleanings—helps reduce inflammation and can stop the bleeding over time.

If your gums bleed regularly, let us help you get them healthy again!

We look forward to welcoming a new member to our Prestige Dentistry family! ❤️

🍼🦷 Learning never stops at Prestige Dentistry! 💙

Our team recently had the privilege of attending an insightful educational session presented by Janay Alexander-Gilchrist from Curaprox South Africa on B2E 3: From Birth to Bite – Jaw, Palate, and Tongue Development in Infants.

The session explored the vital role that early jaw, palate, and tongue development plays in a child's oral health, feeding, breathing, speech, and overall growth. By continually expanding our knowledge, we're better equipped to identify concerns early, educate parents, and provide the highest standard of care for our youngest patients.

A huge thank you to Janay Alexander-Gilchrist for sharing her expertise and helping us continue to grow as a team. Continuous education allows us to provide evidence-based, holistic care for every patient who walks through our doors.

Because at Prestige Dentistry, learning today means healthier smiles tomorrow. 🌸🦷
